Best setup for Torch Red SVT Cobra

Okay if you haven't notice yet, i'm new to the forum Here is a link to my color I'm dealing with.

A few questions... I need to do some correction as I have some water etching in the paint. I used Meguiars Ultimate Compound last weekend starting with my trunk which was near flawless with most of the corrections, however my arm went limp after 30min. So apparently I need to invest in a polisher for starters. Here's what I have used in the first Picture in my thread....
Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo/Meguiars UC/Zymol Cleaner Wax and LiquidGlass Polish. I'm ready to step up to something that is better than the local parts store. Any recommendations would be great. I want the "deep red/wet" look to the vehicle vs a simple gloss that I have now. I must belong here because i've started to become an addict at taking care of my vehicles along with the wife's.:buffing:

P.S. I have a 10" orbital buffer which may not be the best thing to use vs the 7" polishers which I may look to invest in come x-mas time, but will it suffice? *Key note here is that I'm meticulous to detail, but not a professional by any means and do not intend to drop 500.00 for a detailing kit because I wouldn't enjoy detailing anymore at that point as it would become a job vs passion.:xyxthumbs:

welcome to the fourm, imo wg fuzion looks amazing on red and its on sale now too!!! from what i have used the megs 105/205 combo works well with my pc 7424xp usind lc ccs pads. Im new to detailing so this is just my .02 their is a ocean of knowledge on here. Good luck with your stang
 
Yeah I've read the wg fuzion to be good. That's on my top list at the moment
 
Well I had a TR 03 Mach 1 a few months ago, and mine always looked great after 105/205/Ultrafine with a rotary, then sat overnight under some WGDGPS3.0, followed up by two coats of Nattys Red

At a minimum, you want to get a dual action polisher like the Porter Cable 7424 and I would recommend a 5.5" pad selection including a cutting pad, a few polishing pads and at least one finishing pad.

Then you want to get a Swirl Mark Remover, I've been promoting the Wolfgang TSR 3.0 because it works well and it's easy to use. There are less costly SMR's out there but since coming to AG from Meguiar's I've been very impressed with this SMR and find it pretty much "Bubba-Proof" which is very important for people moving up to machine polishing.

It's funny to me that you brought up your 10" TOB or Traditional Orbital Buffer because just last night someone asked me why I alway show this buffer in all of my classes and here's why,


Because so many people either have one, have access to one or know where to buy one cheap.

So I use one in all my Detailing 101 classes because it's a prop that creates an "Anchor" in one's mind and then I go on to explain why you can't use one of these things to remove swirls out of a clear coat finish and then I tie it back to the tool you can use and this does two things.

I clears up confusion about what these tools can and cannot do
It solves a person's problem by guiding them to the right tool


So sorry to say, "no" you can't use any buffer that resembles the one I just took a picture of and uploaded to the gallery for this thread to remove swirls or other below surface paint defects out of a clear coat finish.

If you enjoy it and it's important to take care of your investment, then look at a new DA Polisher as a good investment to preserve your more costly investment, (a car, truck or s.u.v.), and if you consider what ti would cost to pay a professional detailer to do the job for you, you come out ahead and that assumes you don't get a hack detailer that swirls out your paint.

Plus working on your "toy" is relaxing and fun and when you're done you can take pride in your work. A lot of times you'll find your friends will want to hire you to buff out their cars or at least show them how you buffed out your car. You can buff out a couple of cars for friends and get your investment back.

I know these pictures suck, but here are some shots of mine after 10 hours worth of work. Use of a Dewalt 849 with 105/PFW, 205/LC-Orange, then followed up with Ultrafine for the last bit of holograms from the buffer. Then sat overnight with some Wolfgang 3.0 Paint Sealant, followed in the morning with 2 coats of nattys red.
