I have seen 2 different approaches to using a foam cannon for a maintenance wash:
1) apply foam to a dry car, with the assumption that letting the foam penetrate for a few minutes, then rinsing off, will avoid swirls. Then hand washing after this initial foam and rinse. Advocates also claim foam adheres to a dry surface better than a wet surface.
2) rinse the car first, to remove initial dirt, then foam, then hand wash. Advocates claim it's better to spray off initial dirt than to let it sit on the car.
Which approach is better?
