So I'm looking into switching from synthetic to a Carnauba based wax (Or the hybrid ones, I'm not sure whats best for me).

Anyways, the car that I am detailing is my 2004 Mazda RX8, and the color is Lightning Yellow. I am going to be attaching some pictures of the car below as well, but for reference, the overall condition of the car is pretty good - There is no oxidization, clear coat stripping or anything of the sorts.

I am wanting to know which type of wax is best for this particular color? I am a big fan of hand-waxing (I generally wash, clay-bar, polish, then wax), and would like to stick to that even if it means a little bit more work involved.

First off, though, let me say these things:

I am fine with Carbauna wax not lasting forever. The 6 weeks is fine
Money is not a huge issue, to some extent. I'm willing to dorp a bit of money for my car!

So, saying that - I am looking for something that will really 'pop' the yellow. I have tried many different shelf brands (Meguairs synthetic, etc), but have no luck finding something that really makes the color of the car deepen and pop.

I looked on the AutoGeek site, and couldn't seem to find one that is particularly good on yellow / lighter color cars. Anyone with any advice on a good wax product, procedure, or just general advice, all would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

DoDo Juice Banana Armour would be a good carnuba wax for that color. Great for reds/yellows.

I would tryout Wolfgang Fuzion; you can get it in the smaller size, 3oz I think. If you want to try a few that are cheap yet will really work, try anything from Collinite. 845 is always a recommendation, and they have some higher end wax as well.

I would look through the Dodo Juice line for a color like that.

I'd hit it with some DG #111 and call it a day, well as an LSP, before hand some DG #501 w/ 601 and then finish with #111, make that yellow POP!

To a point. I don't drive it to work everyday, use it more as a 'weekend car', but take it out for drives during the week as well. It is a summer-only car.

Yupp, and I'm perfectly fine with that. If there is a good hybrid of carnuba/polymer type waxes for longer durability that would be great, though!

I greatly appreciate all the advice. It's a tough decision what to get. I like the idea of sealants because of durability, but that isn't my primary purpose here - I want something that will make the color pop, and your suggestions are great.

Now to just decide what to get!

Thanks to everyone else as well for all suggestions, I'll be sure to let you know what I decide on!

I should have mentioned - The car has swirl marks, and I want to get rid of them. It's hard to tell from pictures, but the suns rays reflect and the swirls are quite visible.

If anyone could recommend a full-blown cleaning, what would it consist of? I'm talking wash, swirl remover or polish or whatever works best, and wax / sealant?

As it is in storage for the winter, once it is out I will have to do a full detail on it - So I want to do it absolutely right. Whether this means numerous products (polishes, waxes, detailers, etc), I want to do it RIGHT! :) I'm willing to get what I need to do a full-blown detail on this car.

For reference, here is what I used to use for off the shelf products:

- Hand Wash
- Clay Bar
- Meguiar's Ultimate Compound
- Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
- Meguiar's Ultimate Wax
- Meguiar's Ultimate Detailer

Please note that those are all consumer-line products, and that is the order I would do it in. Obviously I did this to clean the car, attempt to get rid of swirls, and brighten / deepen the color. Got some pretty decent results, but I know that they can be improved significantly.

Thanks again all for suggestions!

Hey Tyler

If you ever need some help or need to develop a technique or want to test out a product. There is a good chance I have it or have tried it and you are more than welcome to pop by and give it a go in return for some pics of your ride!

Definitely going to take you up on this! I'm sure my girlfriend with her 1997 BMW 318iS (w/ M3 body conversion, sick car) would be all for getting some pics if you want as well. I bought her a Rebel t3i last summer (she's been taking Design Studies) and has fallen in love with pictures of her car, lol

The car gets out in spring - nice 900km cruise from SK back here :) Once I get it out here I'll be sure to pop by. The Jetta TDI I'm driving right now isn't as picture worthy
