Ok, I want to do my headlights on our 98 van. I have Meg's plast-x, wolfgang lens sealant and uv protectant - (not exact names, 2 different lens products by wolfgang in addition to the mags, and a blue coral headlight restorer bottle).
by hand does not cut it well. minimal improvement only.
What can I use these items with on the pc to get a real improvement - spot buffs? What color?
Or do I have to order a whole kit when i have so many peices?
Please advise.
Thanks!
We want to see this van over the summer and the lens are aging it falsely.

LaurenFeed back please :)

I used some XMT3 on my fog lights just by hand and it cleared up pretty good. Have you thought of using some 3000 grit on them and than using a polish to smooth em back up. I would try some XMT 2 on there with maybe an orange pad and see what you can do. The only thing that would be tricky are the little aligning studs on the headlights might be a pain to move around......

I have the Same problem with my Serria 4X4 on my marker lights. Not condusive to use a convential pad(6", 4") . Would be extreamly tedious to do by hand. I am also looking for ideas. Intrested to hear the suggestions. Feed back please

aww, i thought after the volvo you would know for sure.
thanks for humoring me though. we shall see!

How bad off are the lenses, Lauren? Are they completely opaque? Pics would be helpful. I really like using the spot buffs on the lenses for the control they give you in getting to all the areas of the lens. If you don't want to buy the entire kit, you can buy just the backing plate for $7.99 2-3/4 Hook & Loop Backing Plate and get the polishing pal which has all the pads for $29.99 Wolfgang Polishin’ Pal is an ergonomically shaped urethane handle that holds specially designed foam pads using hooks & loops. It's 12 dollars cheaper than buying the WG lens restoration kit, but you don't get all the products so it would be your call. I think it's worth it though to get the pads. You can use your XMT polishes on the lenses. My polish choice would be determined by how badly caked the lenses are. Just my 2 cents. Good luck. :)

JEN, YOU ROCK!
THANK YOU!
Pictures coming up by tomorrow.

I have 4" pads but never used them on the headlights, don't think I would even if my headlights needed it. I have these man boob nipple things on them that will tear a pad apart if hit.

If you don't have nipples, try a cutting pad and light polish or even the Plastic-X which is a great product. I never used it before but last year when I had dual exhaust put on my truck, the shop was cleaning up a Jag in there and he showed me what Plastic-X and a terry cloth could do, I was pretty amazed as it took damn near mos tof the hazzing/cloudiness away. Imagine it would be pretty potent witha cutting pad.

Jenn's plan sounds the best, but a "Mothers Powerball" (fits on a drill) and plastic polish will make an improvement. Read about it on the forum.

Lauren...use plastic-X with a 4" spot pad....just a polishing pad works....if need to be finished better after the oxidation is gone use a white one to finish off with

you can also use AIO...XMT 1 or 2....pro polish...any lite swirl remover will clean it up...and a polish to finish it off...

Lauren..I use 4 or 5 ..if AIO did not cut it then try a swirl remover..XMT 2 ..then finish off with 1 and AIO to clean it up..remember you have to work at it...a pass or two will not do it...may take 4 passes..

My swirl removers differ from XMT so they cut faster...

I think you have the same problem I had on my wife's 99 Pont. GP.
I tried many different products and even took the headlights off the car to work on them.
What I found was that the problem was on the inside of the len's.
I think the heat from the lamp heats the air inside the headlight and any minerals in the moisture inside gets deposited on the inside of the len's.
The moisture gets in around the o-ring that holds the lamp in.

Your pictures look just like my head lights looked.

I got GM replacement's for around $70 each from the dealer, but they do come with new lamps.
My body shop guy told me that my wife would not be happy with the after market replacement's FYI

Sorry for the delay of the information, we were on vacation for 2 weeks and had both kids spent some time with us.
They still like to make me kind of crazy just for fun :D

Any questions PM me

Just thinking aloud. Wouldn't there be a way to get the lens cover off and work on the inside surface? Any "O" rings could get some swimming pool lube which rejuvenates them. Don't know. Just a shot in the dark to save money.
