What is the best way to protect the rest of the vehicle (from buffing dust) when using a da buffer? I have been using painters tape to surround the immediate area and simply throwing a sheet over the hood. I’m trying to avoid having to clay the car after buffing. The dust seems to stick ...

thank you

Use some modern products that do not dust.

What are you using now?

Mostly Meguiars 3m swirl remover with a Griots Garage polisher

Thank you. Just looked at their products. Is the polish the one I need to remove swirls? (Yellow bottle )

There are a few options.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Heavy defect removal? Moderate?

Correcting Cream would be your starting point.

But this all depends on many factors, such as: What type of vehicle? Hard or soft clearcoat? What pads are you planning to use?

Which product is dusting on you? Meguiar's M9? 3M? There could be other things to consider such as the amount of product being used and how often you are cleaning the pad. Also a panel wipe or even a damp towel will remove the compound/polishing dust.

Griots Garage 3” polisher w/red pad

Not sure on the hardness of the paint. It’s a 2020 F150

You are doing a whole F-150 with a Griot's 3 inch?

No, just a small portion. (Although it sounds like a great plan for ducking the wife. Kidding if she sees this)

I have a Bauer 6” polisher for larger areas.

Make some adjustments to your technique first. Edges will fling product and dust. Clean your pads more often. I clean my pads after every pass on a panel.
