Best winter sealant?

Regardless of what wax you use some will always be absorbed back into the pad. Foam is a sponge and sponges absorb.

Collinite 845 is temperature sensitive and if it gets hard to use simply place the bottle in hot water for a few minutes and it's ready to go.

Collinite 845 is probably the biggest bang for the buck today providing a wet shine and 3 to 4 months of solid protection and all for about $12.00.

Clarification - Is the 845 a sealant or a "carnuba" or both? I purchased the Wolfgang sealant 3.0 and the 845 wax with the thought of performing a final detail of the year with Wolfgang 3.0, cure overnight, and then one or two coats of 845 - is this a proper procedure or redundant?

I purchased 845 thinking it was a pure carnuba and was under the impression that after any good sealant is applied its beneficial to put a layer of wax on top?

Collinite=carnuba. I use it on top of 3m performance finish sealant

I don't believe that 845 is considered a "pure" carnauba, but perhaps someone else can chime in.

Here's what my car looked like after a rain, I had applied Collinite #845 4 months before this pic was taken. # 845 lasts through a Harrisburg PA winter for sure. I applied it on a job the other day and noticed that when I left the bottle to sit in the sun for approx. 15 minute it had turned a very thin liquid and required very little shaking.

I live in NE PA and Collinite 845 topped with Collinite 915 has been my "winter wax" choice for the past few years now! It last all winter for me and it looks awesome! I am typically a "wax" person but I heard great things about Klasse HGSG topped with 845 also!

Rock solid winter combo! I have both these products and will use this as my winter protection boosted with some duragloss aquawax.

I do 3 coats of Klasse SG topped with WGDGPS 3.0. Looks great and lasts a long time.

Planning on using Optimum Poli-Seal, letting it cure overnight and then applying two coats of Collinite #845.

Does layering Collinite boost its longevity and what would be the dry time between the 2nd coat if so?

Hello, I'm not a professional detailer, but just looking for a good product to protect my cars for the winter -- 2009 silver infiniti and 2006 silver ford fusion. I've done a little reading online and while Klasse looks like it would do the job, the high gloss sealant may be more work than I'm looking for as several posters have said it is tricky to remove. What prodcut would you suggest that balances good protection with ease of application for a novice? I'm hoping for about 6-months of protection to get us through the Pittsburgh winter. Thanks very much.

I have had excellent results with Duragloss products, and have tried many.

What is the advantage of topping one carnauba with another?

Hey all, my I am trying to come up with a winter sealant/wax system, this is my first year being serious about keeping the finish clean (may have something to do with buying a brand new Tacoma :).. I was thinking of doing a WG DGPS 3.0 topped with one of the collinites, either 846, 476, or possibly 915. I saw on another thread somewhere that the #845 has solvents in it that would eat away at the DGPS? According to the description of all 3 collinites, none fo them have cleaning properties, though. I live in NJ, so we have salty, wet winters and I have become frigging obsessed with keeping my Tacoma protected (and slightly concerned with keeping my wife's forester protected :)

Which combo do you guys think would be best?

I've had numerous exchanges with Mike Taylor of Collinite about layering, solvent content and whether 845 IW is a wax or a sealant. His answer is it's a hybrid... the ease and looks of a sealant with the longevity of a carnauba. Works for me, and has for about 30 years. :dblthumb2:

im still in the prosess of puting my clear coat on my truck but after i do that i need to know how to use a compound to get the swhine that i want???

Do you think any gets wasted using the pad? I was going to do it by hand even though I have a DA. Also, mine is kinda thick. I see a lot of people saying it should be liquid.

It goes on so easy by hand and is a sinch to apply evenly with a microfiber applicator.

After washing and claying I use Klasse AIO then 2 layers of Klasse SG then top with Collinite 845.

Thanks for all the responses. Today, I ordered UPGP from autogeek. I have P21S Gloss-enhancing paintwork clenaser, which I will use to prep. I wanted something easy to use and UPGP appears to fit the bill. Thanks again.

845 Isn't a pure carnuba but a "hybrid" ! 845 gives a "high gloss" finish then topped with 915 that is a pure carnuba gives that 3D rich glow....and the combination on my darker vehicles looks amazing and the protection is longlasting! Of course this is just my method and opinion!
