Best Winter Sealant?

Wow I could have sworn I responded to this thread. Guess it was one of the many like it... That aside collinite is a great wax. But I love me some Sonax PNS I have yet to find anything as hydrophobic as it is. Which will help invoke better self cleaning during those fun months where we get to watch the filth pile up before we can rid it. It lasted me fine through the roughest winter in NY in a long time last year.

I saw that there is a DP Poli-Coat Seal/Collinite combo that is only $40 so that's a possibility.

I saw some other threads before I posted this one, but I noticed that the ones I found were a few years old. I only asked since new products have come out since then to see if any preferences have changed.

This may be a bit further out (especially given my rather conservative nature), but you might consider one of the new coatings from Pinnacle Black label. I wouldn't recommend a "newbie" starting out with a coating, but, if you read the threads carefully, Pinnacle Black Label Paint Coating is so easy to apply that you shouldn't dismiss it. Moreover, it will shed water, salt etc. like no sealant can.

I recently coated my wife's car (PBLPC). She went on a trip to FL and got into heavy insects. She bought a pail some soap and a bug sponge and never had to use the soap or the bug sponge. The water alone did the trick. Being experienced with FL bugs, she was amazed!

We're putting PBLPC on her new car when it comes in, BTW.

Having said that, if you want to go with a sealant, Klasse is very durable and will get you through the Winter in Harrisburg. It was my go to sealant (along with Zaino Z2). I have switched to Black Fire Black Ice for the special look that it has. It also should see you through a Harrisburg Winter with no problem if you take care of it.

Most decent products will get the job done. Some are a bit easier to use than others.

I use Collinite 845 for my daily driver in PA winters. Works like a charm.

Wolfgang DGPS. Applied it to the driveway car lat October and it finally beaded out in July in the northeast. The shine ... Fantastic, and the product goes a long way.

If using a sealant is it ok to put a wax over it??? And if so is there any benefit to the wax??

Yes, it is perfectly ok to "top" a sealant with a wax although there are varying opinions here on that. Of course you can't top a wax with a sealant. It 's only a one way thing...wax over sealant. We get our dreaded love bug season down her in FL twice a year. I layer some Collinite 845 on top of my Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant and they wash right off!

I've always liked topping my sealant with a wax. Gives it just one more sacrificial layer to protect.

I live in Michigan also, and the winters here are disgusting. In the past I've had great luck with Meguiar's #20 Polymer Sealant, and I observed a customer at the car wash I work at have excellent results with Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax. A former manager did well with Turtle Wax Ice Paste.

This winter I'm experimenting on a few different vehicles. I have three that will be getting Surf City Garage's Nano Seal. I'm currently running preliminaries with it, and have been pretty impressed with it so far. It's got a great gloss, slickness, and looks. Durability and longevity are unknown, as there isn't much information on the product out there, so I'll have to see for myself. On my gf's Yellow 04 Canyon, I'll be trying Meguiar's Ultimate Wax. One car has Duragloss 101, and another will have 111. 111 is a near and dear sealant. I've always had great results with that one.

I'm going to try and attempt to resist the urge to top with a carnauba though... I like putting that M26 on top of things...

Thanks for the info guys not sure what i'll use for the sealant or wax yet still reading there are so many choices!!

If you go with a coating can you still top it with a wax? Also, when using a coating can you put that over XMT 360 or would you use the 360 then house a paint cleaner before applying the coating? Essentially, after correcting the paint should you just use the paint prep of the same brand of the coating you are going to apply?
I was thinking of a sealant because I use my skills to pay back friends that help me out ie, making them Texas BBQ, helping them work on their car and now using the DA and my products. It's just how my friends and I pay each other back.
