Ok i did a detail today. A black Toyota Tundra. It was in bad shape. I ended up using the Pinacle XMT Intermediate swirl kit and toped it off with NXT2.0 tech wax...Looks GREAT!

Used folex for the first time on the carpets...very impressed. Used Stoners Invisible Glass on windows, always satisfaction there. Used 303 aerospace protectant on all the plastic on the inside after cleaning it.

There are 4things that continually PISS ME OFF when I detail and I cant find the right product or technique!

1) Plastic trim. I have a bottle of Black wow. If you have a small piece of trim to do, this stuff is great. If you have large plastic bedrails and running boards and door trim its a nightmare...it just doesnt spread very easily...to do it RIGHT its extremely time consuming. So I get frustrated and use my tire wet. Its a quick fix and looks good for a few hours...

What the HECK can I use on plastic that will bring it back to new and not evaporate in minutes or hours???

2) Weather stripping. The thick stuff on the outside of windows at the bottom and all around. Dont even try black wow, tire shine or whatever because it doesnt even soak in...just sits on top all greasy. What do I use to rejuvinate the trim? A lot of the time it gets these brown crusty spots all over the rubber and I dont even know how to get those off!

3) Black painted metal. Like bumpers, roof racks tail light guards. When these things are new they are shiny and dark....as the sun does its thing, over the years they get chalky looking or worse the paint blisters off the metal and rust shows. Again, dont wipe with tire shine because it doesnt soak in...what do you dress these items with???

4) Lastly, wheel well! How do people get these so dark and new looking? Ive sprayed the heck out of it with purple power and let it sit, then presure washed it out. Cleans up great...but has a really ugly dull gray look when all dry. What do you dress this with? Tried tire shine...just a drippy greasy mess...

Please help. My customers are happy with my work, but Im not...these few items are always a source of frustration and agrivation to me!

Thanks in advance!

i'd be interested about what someone has to say about these things because i am also clueless on what to do in these situations

1. Poorboys Trim Restorer, dries quickly and leaves and new glossy look and easy to spread.

2. Einszett Rubber Stick

3. Polish and Paint Sealant like all other items. Klasse AIO ...

4. Wash, scrub, and use a cheap aerosol gloss tire spray

I like Meguiars All Season Dressing. There is also Mothers Back to Black.

never thought about klasse! Thats a great idea! Thanks! the others are great too!

1. Yeah, I find Black Wow overrated. Tried it on my wiper cowel. Tried it on my wife's Toyota Sienna that is 1/3 trim aound the whole bottom perimeter. Still haven't found anything that lasts a long time either. Interested to see if there is a genuine plastic restorer.

2. I really like to use 303 Protectant. Nice matte finish.

4. Well.....I am using up the rest of the Black Wow on the wheel wells. Just gotta use very little or it will attrack. Seems to work well. But by the next weekend I have to do it again especially after cleaning with a well brush. Never used it but heard good things about Griot's Undercarriage Spray.

I 2nd Poorboys trim restorer for plastic trim. I've always had good results with it. The painted bumpers and metal trim, what can you do?
It wasn't taken care of by the owners, you can't make it look like new
unless you repaint it. You can only do so much. Same for the wheel wells, the tar and road grim is hard to remove to get good results. I cleaned a plastic wheel well on my own vehicle with paint thinner once.
Didn't hurt a thing, should have seen the tar that came off I couldn't even see. I used Megs Hyper dressing and got good results.

These are excellent ideas...thanks a lot guys. I am using folex and stoners I.G. based on the recommendation of this site and i love them...

Klasse is a great idea. just tried it out on my jeep. Thanks

the black rubber trim around the bottoms of the windows can be fixed with a quick wipe of laquer thinner, itll leave a flat finish and remove any of the mold spots that you are talking about, no need to dress them. as for inner fenderwells, the caustic in the purple power is whats causing the gray film to be left on the plastic, try going to a citrus based cleaner, cleans just as well without harsh caustics, and i also like the megs hyper dressing, looks great at 2-1

Lacquer thinner! never thought of that! and the 2-1 hyperdressing is good for wheel well?

What about simple green for cleaning wheel wells?

I keep hearing hyperdressing mentioned. I hope its better than megs HOT SHINE because of all the OTC tire shines I have used, Hot shine is the worst. But Ill give it a try...

seems like you put alot of hard work into your details....why are you using nxt?? i used to use nxt, and it was a fine product and all, but there are far superior sealants out there then nxt....

Well I DO put alot of hard work into the details, but the guy Im doing the detail for was getting a full inside out bumper to bumper polish wax shampoo etc for the cost of a basic detail. On all the details I do at a discount I use the nxt...because its cheap and I like the way it shines.

IF you can show me another wax thats 17.99 Ill use it on those cheap details!Im the MAN

I like NXT myself and think it's one of the best over-the-counter waxes/sealants. A comparable product that I like as much, and perhaps even a bit more, than NXT is Mother's Reflections. Right now you can get a 16 oz bottle of Reflections wax from Amazon.com for only $9.95. That's a hard price to beat. Perhaps AG would match that price. Nothing to lose by asking. :)

thats cool, like i said, i used to use nxt and its a fine product.....

If I were doing my own vehicle I certainly would reach for a different wax. But on vehicles where they want just a basic wash an wax or on polish jobs that are drastically discounted, I use nxt.

This is my first bottle and Im about out. My first time using a liquid wax. IMO I think it goes on a lot THINNER than a paste. Im going to try the paste NXT next time. I just hope it buffs off with a PC and microfiber bonet as nice as the liquid.

BTW I did another detail today. Well I wouldnt call it a detail but a good wash vac and wax.

It was a toyota highlander and it had those metal painted roof racks/rails that were fading out. I used a little Klasse on it and wala! It worked great!

Another think i did was twist my HOT SHINE bottle to FINE mist. Instead of drenching it and wiping off i left it on there. seems to have worked a lot better...

Also I used XMT 360 for the door handle scratches like in the advertisment. I would like to say that 75% of them came off with a clay bar. The rest came RIGHT off with XMT 360. So if anyone that needs to hear that, reads it, then good job!
:righton:

just be careful with the laquer, you dont want to scrub at the moldings, just wipe in one direction, the hyperdressing is all i use for wheel wells and tires, it looks great, semi gloss finish and smells pretty good too. i dont know about simple green either, i know its supposed be a safe biodegradable cleaner, but cant give my opinion on it. i have seen it leave a brown film on tires after cleaning with it for an extended amount of time though. i think your better off trying one of the AP's in here, Megs APC+ or TAW are both great cleaners

i have used Poorboy on my moms Blazer the trim by the drivers door was turning greyish used it brought it back. love the stuff. been 4-5 still looks good!!!

really? Well I will try it based on your recommendation.

Ive noticed also that the products that are packaged in the worst way usually are the best....like Folex.. Plain ugly bottle. works great. Poor boys. ugly as sin, so Im hoping my theory holds true!
