2005 Infiniti G35 7/18/11

i fought the paint to get everything right.
i tried 3 dif machines, 2 dif compounds & 3 dif polishes!

the Ardex guy gave me a sample of Hi Def Polish that he swore by but i never ordered it after this job.
i tried using it on a few other black cars & just didnt like it but it was perfect as a fill in for this car & it was free! today was my lucky day!

Makita 9227C rotary
Green Pads + Ardex Hi Def Polish
Blue Pads+ 3M Ultrafine Polish

Protection = Collinite #845 Liquid Insulator Wax

no. i think the self healing paint was in 09. not sure if they are still using the self healing stuff. i do know nissan is full of poo with theyre hard clear coat sticker under the hood of the new GTR. thats some joke they got going on lol.
i wonder if anyone has done a test for the self healing paint. i would really like to see a lightly swirled car go into the spray booth & be baked, same like fresh paint would be baked. now that would be a real test to see if this self healing paint was the real deal or not.
thank you.
Nice save Andrew!
thanks!
Awesome job man. That looked like crap before hand
yes she def did. thanks!

My black G37 is an 09 and has the self healing paint. The funny thing is the rock chips never get better. J/K. It does chip really easily though. If the self healing crap ever did anything, it was when the car was new. But it never made a positive difference because the paint's so soft it picks up swirls faster than it ever could possibly let them go.

Andrew, do you have any recommendations for compounds, polishes, and pads that you know work well on on my 09's "self healing" black paint? I've got water spots, light swirls, and fine cat scratches on the hood. I'll be using my new Flex 3401 and I will be learning as I go. It seems like there are lots of caveats with my paint. Any advice as to what I should watch out for?

You've got a great charity going on there...taking in a fellow's used G35 and giving him back a new one! :props: There's nothing like taking pride in one's work. :righton:

Im also curious about the self healing paint. Does anyone know if it affects the 2010 g37's?

question .. I have a red 06 g35 .. after polishing all of the swirls completely out, I am left with exactly what this picture shows .. I thought at first that it was my towels linting but I tried everything to get these spots off including new towels, IPA, QD, etc .. is this normal ?? thanks

Very nice work. That is a nice G35, wonder if those are DPE wheels?

Great work Andrew! I used to have a G35 and just love the bodystyle! You made this car look better than new!

Yes, it's normal. It looks like solvent pop in the paint to me. There would be no way to fix it other than respraying the clear. If it was on the front bumper or something it might be from rock impacts, but that would look a little different.

i do alot of infinitis. i use only flat foam pads from detailers domain. i believe theyre buff n shine brand. on the daily ive been sticking with m105 + m205 & i get great results. if the job requires a little more ill finish off with 3m UF, all depends on the condition of the car & what the customer is paying for. i gave up all my 3m compounds for my new love crush on the meguiars twins. i just cant let go of my 3m UF lol.

what to watch out for? my advice, learn to forgive infiniti paint for she will never ever be perfect. ive had some older black g35 with very hard paint. that was wierd but its happened a bunch of times.

thanks :xyxthumbs:

BEAUTIFUL car when you were done with it!

thank you

rock chips & pits in the paint.

OP... nice job on the correction. You make me miss my G.
thanks. i lke the g35 body better than the g37 body.

Very nice work. That is a nice G35, wonder if those are DPE wheels?
thanks .i dont think so.

no in that pic what you see are stone chips & pitting in the clear coat. infiniti paint is junk.

lol thanks!

an infiniti wouldn't take too much of this before little clear is left correct?

Andrew,
