Big Kid Toys - Flex Polisher

One thing I found with my Flex by accident but really like is the other day when polishing my cord got hung under the tire and the flex became unplugged while I was using it. I had the trigger lock on and forgot to take it off when I went back to plug it up. I laid the Flex on my towel and went and plugged it back up. Well the Flex did not start back up until I took off the trigger lock and started it back again. Nice little safety feature there.

Wondering ?

UDM polisher __________Flex polisher which is the best ? Feed back please

Wasn't there some rumors floating around of the next gen UDM being around $200? If so, for the extra money, the Flex is really a no-brainer. Unless the UDM can come close to the Flex's performance, and rid itself of quality control issues.

I believe that is highly unlikely that the new UDM will be anything like the Flex. Mind you I have never used the Flex, but I am very, very impressed with it from reading about it online. IMO this is what all dual action orbitals should be like :). The newer UDM will have to be 20x better than the current version to be up to the Flex standards, IMO.

To add more fuel on the Flex fire:

1) Yesterday I saw pictures of 1500 grit wet sanding being taken out by Flex in one pass! I don't know how hard clear was but still ...

That was quite an impressive write up and pics. Most say though after using the Flex I wasn't surprised.

I think each of the machines have a place in detailing, a PC and UDM or Cyclo for minor and normal detailing. A rotary fits best in the hands of a professional. And now with the Makita/Flex offers a medium ground that offers more power than PC but less than true rotary.

OK, got a PC and Makita - bought right here BTW, and I was thinking about the Cyclo - but after consulting with others - I started looking hard at the Flex. I did get some rotary time in Sat under the professional guidence of my friend that owns a bodyshop. I tried 3M ultrafina for the firest time and on a 3M pad and Dewalt (all first time deals to me) - I was having second thoughts after that on getting a Flex, then today I roughed up a piece of trim on a car I was detailing and ...maybe the Detailing Gods are trying to tell me to get a Flex, or maybe I just need to pay closer attention! I don't know but I do know I love 3M products now!

That's exactly what I'm saying, Budman!!!

Yes, I do find myself religiously taping trim while using the Flex now. Picked up a 3 or 4 pack of 3m painter's tape at Costco on the cheap a few weeks ago.

If it weren't for the carpet cleaning I would argue that PC and PC-like do not belong in anybody's arsenal, not even beginners for minor detailing.

lets just say alot of us differ on this, especially given that alot of detailers can do correction with the PC and when given a fair chance is quite safe and effective for pro and novice alike.

I have to agree with you Killr. I still like to use a PC over my metabo on some parts of a car. The Flex polisher looks nice. I have used a Flex Stone Wet Rotary Polisher for years. It's a well built machine.

The Flex looks like something I will consider without question but I really hope the Edge folks come up with a solid adapter that can be counted on. I have a lot more Edge pads then LC.

AG -

Once this arrives will it have the new backing plate that does not have separation issues?
