I finally finished with the paint on this Bimmer. It had 4 areas where it had been re-painted and those were soft...no, softer than soft! It was painful to work with (2 doors, quarters, bumpers) and then easy to work with the OEM paint. What a chore: constantly changing to fresh pads on the soft stuff.

Used: 3M Perfect-It 3000 compound, 3M Perfect-It 3000 Swirl Remover, 3M Ultrafina SE, and finished with 3M Performance Wax (not bad stuff....I had a sample in the shop).

The paint looks great Toto! :righton::buffing:

I hope I don't create any controversy by asking this, but I thought you had converted to System One?

Wow. Like a mirror. You can see the glare from your glasses in your reflection (last pic). Beautiful.

Toto..you never fail to put out amazing work. It's interesting to see you use different products as well..reinforces the "it's the method, not the product" mantra.

I do use and wanted to use System One on this vehicle. The dealer insisted I use 3M products. I think it was because of the re-painted panels and the trouble they were going to cause that was the decision maker for him. I "discussed" strongly (beats saying argued) my feelings about using 3M (especially the dreaded Extra Cut...which is beach sand in a liquid suspension) and he won the discussion on 2 big counts: 1 they are his cars and 2, this is his shop. So, I did have to give it the power washings between process'es (compounding and polishing) and he helped.

It really is, after all the process over the product.

LOL, that is completely understandable. Obviously, finished product is what matters and you always pull off the amazing turn around.

I don't understand why he would hire a Master such as yourself and then dictate the products you are to use. That aside, beautiful mirror finish.

Understandable Toto, but didn't you say that the System One was quicker for you to use? IE: Makes you more efficient, which allows you to do more work and make him more money?

Ego, some people need to feel like they are in control, others are humble enough to take direction

Toto, great work, repaints are a pain. I tell my young Jedi all the time that although bimmer clear is hard and difficult to work with it is consistant, when that is taken out of the equation, it can make for a frusterating process to "get it right"

You've pretty much nailed the "situation" Clay.

blk45: as far as being more efficient goes, it doesn't matter too much in this shop (unless I get backed up) because these cars are going up for sale when I'm finished. The only time I get "hurry up's" is on a pre-sold car and he is adamant about telling the customer to allow time for me to detail. Most customers gladly do that when they see my work.

A lot of the product decision comes from: I've been using 3M for XX years and that's always worked for me, especially on black cars.

iv'e been doing professional detailing for 22 years and i work on alot of big$ cars that people freak out on who touches them. i never had 1 person tell me what to use on cars exept 1 who kept telling me to try zaino products. well i listened and i love there products, as for the 3 m products i love them,. i would of done the same thing to the bmw, i have had such great results with there products i never have tried anything else. the 3m ulrta fine se is the best product i have ever used. i get great results. i am waiting for a shipment of menzerna from ag this week. i ordered about everything that is in the menzerna line. i am looking forward to testing there product. i am going to test all of there products next week on my mercedes g 500. it need a total exterior detail. i will let you know what i thought of the menzerna products next week... by the way the bmw looks great.. pic of the g wagon that is getting the menzerna test.

Thanks folks for the compliments!

No Ipod, but just a Sony Walkman headphones/am and fm radio. Works great and NO CORD. I tried a few others with cords and the cord dangles too close to polishers IMO.
