The dealer got this 550i (a super performance Bimmer) and I had just finished the frustrating black 545i ....thinking "here I go again"...another 3 days of correction! Well, the paint wasn't in too bad of shape (usual car wash swirls and light scratches), so I wash, clay and put it on the lift. Couple of areas needed wet sanding where the scratches were beyond surface.

Now, the dealer says he has a buyer coming in Thursday afternoon (told me this at the end of the day Wednesday). Well, doing his 3M process would just not work with the time given, so I used System One Polish. This car had a hard clear coat like the 545i and wool wasn't working fast, so I switched to a 3M foam cutting pad...BAM! Worked like a charm. Polished with a 3M foam glaze pad, power washed, and used Pinnacle Souveran for a final step. Started on this car at 6:00am and finished the outside at 2:30pm...they came in an hour later. The interior was "showable"...so I didn't even touch it until today.

Here's a couple of process pics. I won't show the starting finish in accordance with the dealer's request.

System One with Wool...little too much swirling then I switched to foam

Couldn't have done it right without that lift!

Richard..fantastic job as usual. I just got my system one in and haven't used it yet. I'm thinking of using my FX35 as a guinea pig for it..it is a little worse for wear after this winter..some scratches and what not. Interesting using the foam cutting pad..I've got both wool and the LCC yellow foam..I'll have to see what works better. Does it get hotter using the foam with system one? This pic is amazing:

Car looks great as usual Toto! I bet the sliver car up next will be a relief:D

Richy: I don't know if it got hotter, but the foam did work better. I suspect it had a better "bite" for the hard clear coat over the wool. I did use wool on the plastic bumpers and rocker panel for safety though...wool definitely runs cooler on plastic parts.

Looks excellent.

So, you detail cars for a dealer?

Yep...he's a small, independent pre-owned BMW dealer and is fanatical about having cars that are cleaned and detailed to perfection.

hmmmm....I know the type, great looking 5 car, it would be a hard choice between the 550 and a 335

he's also one to jump in with a rotary to help or assist with interior cleaning...pretty unusual for a "dealer"...an all around good guy (except for his blind loyalty to 3M LOL)
