Black Friday Computer Purchase Help

Geesh seeing those stats on Arts computer make my mind blow. I built this computer must be 9 years ago and then upgraded it a little about 4... Arts computer would wipe its butt with mine YIKES!!!

My point of this is I see a couple people who also built theirs with AMD processors and I would have to COMPLETELY agree with them!!! AMD are the best IMO. I will never build one without AMD and WD hard drives.

Richy get a Mac, you will love it.

Ditto. They don't go on sale much because they don't really have to - they sell no matter what. Dumping Windows was the best thing I ever did.

Macs are uncluttered and don't come with all types of junk software when new. I think I bought my iMac in 2009 or 2010 and it's still working good as new.

I'm no computer expert, gamer, movie maker, etc... I'm just a guy who wants a fast reliable computer that doesn't get gunked up with Windows junky virus'. Maybe Windows has changed, but when I had it, it always locked up, had errors, and just generally didn't work well as it aged.

It might seem overwhelming at first but it's not. I put together my first computer no problems the first try. For your purposes, a high end graphics card isn't necessary, 8GB RAM is more than plenty, and an SSD will make all the difference. I'm running Windows 8 with a SSD and it boots to desktop and is ready to go before my monitor has a chance to finish warming up to show the screen. I'll never go back to a regular HD.

After Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP (which 25% world still has), I switched to Apple (27" loaded iMac) and couldn't be happier! Thank you Microsoft.

Late to the thread, and suggest like some others, you look for the fastest CPU/Processor you can find. Disk drives, RAM are all easy upgrades. Look for at least an Intel I5.

And while I've bought several different models for friends, I'm partial to the Dell --OUTLET-- where you can usually save another 10-15%

Happy Thanksgiving my American friends. I need to replace my desktop computer which is at 95% capacity and running Windows Vista. I want to buy a new computer online on Thursday or Friday and take advantage of a BF sale. I will be at work and can't physically go into a store to purchase so I need a website that offers a great deal with (hopefully) free shipping. I have a new monitor, so I only need the tower. Can anyone point me in the right direction. US or Canadian sites, I don't care. TIA.

Get a Mac . You won't go back. I switched 5 years ago. Good move

My advice would be as follows based on your current situation:

Don't get a MAC. None of your existing software will work. You have far more options with PCs and they should cost less. The days of switching to a MAC because they are more "secure" than a PC are well in the past and the hardware under the hood is the same.

Don't build your own pc. Only do this if you actually CAN build your own pc as you will be the warranty and support for it.

Get a desktop or all-in-one pc with an SSD drive. You will get noticeable performance increases as well as better reliability.

The challenge is finding systems with SSD drives standard. I found some Lenovo Thinkcenters listed new on Ebay for around $600 that would fit the bill quite well. Lenovo may sell them on their website as well. PM me if you want direct links.

Guys thanks so very much for helping me to find and narrow down a search for a computer. I came very close to buying this one that was linked by a member:

But luckily as I was looking at it, I stumbled across this one which seemed damn near identical except for some screen memory which I won't need and saved another $40. I am looking forward to getting it home and setting it up. The memory and RAM will be more than I need now but I think that's a good thing!
