Black Label Diamond Glass Coating Failing...

Hi,

Reading your input since first post the only thing that comes to my mind is a dirty film build up that's impelling coating to work properly.

Being the vehicle outside and 'very used' like you relate, this is a common issue.

How to solve this:

Differently from the time when we used to wax our cars, coated surfaces 'likes' stronger soaps sometimes. While using strong products may weaken or even strip waxes, in coated situations this is not true (to a limit, I guess, not trying to generalize very acid or basic cleansing solutions, just strong or weak CAR SOAP).

I've learned this the hard way, using less powerful soaps and even wash and wax, slowly were getting my coating properties weakened because of build up.

Use a soap like Chemical guys Citrus or Meguiar's Hyper Wash, and wash it thoroughly until water properties comes back.

If that's not enough (or almost enough), use the surface cleansing polish by hand after that thorough wash and that will replenish the surface.

Please, I'm not saying you do not wash your car properly, I've faced same problem earlier and I plentiful wash the car.

Fact is soap and my technique that time were not adequate to dirty I was facing. I was used to wash the car like a waxed car I've talked about earlier, to avoid removing wax.

Now you will wash just like trying to remove the wax, while the wax will be the dirty film build up. The coat will not come away by general washing procedures like described above, guaranteed.

The most clean your coat is (without BUILD-UP), the better it works.

That's why surface cleansing polish is a good maintenance for the coating.

Hope that helps,

Kind Regards.

Just an update. I reapplied the black label coating to my wife's windshield and after a few months it appears to be failing again. It definitely doesn't bead or sheet like it did. This is only on her front windshield the side windows still appear to be protected.
I had applied the coating to my car about the same time I first did hers and mine is still working great. The only difference is my car is garaged and I drive much shorter distances to and from work
Dont tell the Wife that or you will loose your spot in the garage.

Welcome,

This is just my 0.02$, it's likely some build up from most I've see on PBL coatings behavior, obviously I won't guess what may be causing it from here, but like others said, washer fluid, or just pollution from ahead vehicles, 'acid rain', some 'tree fluid' from whenever she parks often, ... or water from rain rolling through some dirty and dropping by the windshield... Sorry, I can't express that concisely in english, lol

Independently of the cause, the 'treatment' may be what I've said above, thorough cleansing.

I always do my coating tests (I run a coating business in Brazil (general detailing but coating oriented)), so I need to stay focused on product I sell.

That being said, I've noticed in this run that PBL coating is more likely do adhere to surface than the contrary. If you sprayed it there and wiped, surface is coated.

I'm not saying about proper or even coverage, but it'll be there, trust me.

Here I have a picture in my album from one of my tests.

The coated side is marked with C, non-coated, N.

For this I've used PBL Wheel coating on a bathroom mirror without any prep at all, just sprayed it on a towel and done some up down passes to cover an area.

Just after application my wife took a 'vapor' shower and mirror showed up the image you'll see above (PS: The image above is more than a month after application, but showed the same), I've tried to wipe it off while wet just after applying, it's 'holding strong' for some months now. It's cleaned weekly by the woman who works here with house APC cleaners, facing moisture since 2 hours from application, placed there without any prep. at all.

Apart from not so even coverage, but that was not my purpose that time, I was looking for prep. and moisture answers. But that's what makes me believe your coating is holding there, just with some film above that is keeping it from working properly.

*******PLEASE, in no means I'm encouraging coatings without proper prep, even after washing, claying, polishing, cleansing polish, I do a last Hyper Wash to remove all I can before applying the coat. Above I'm saying just about testings scenarios.

I've also placed a reply today regarding coating application, method cited there should be the same for glass application so you can get more ideas of how to get a great, even coverage.

However, I see that 'buffing' after application on GLASS takes two things:

- a shorter nap microfiber to avoid lint (even non-lint MF can lint on glass)

- some elbow grease !

That's it.

Hope that helps.

So I applied it to the windshield for the third time. First I did an intensive cleaning and the beading and sheeting properties definitely werent there after the cleaning. The only place that it seemed to be failing was in the arc of where the windshield wipers go. On the portions of the windshield above the arc of the wipers it still functioned as expected.

Not familiar with the product, but if you get 3 months out of it under the wipers, you should be happy. The pro version of opti glass has a 3 year warranty, (even under the wiper blades) but that is an actual clear coat. You may want to try aquapel should give you 6 or more months.
