Black label Diamond Paint Coating prep

Good afternoon! Just last weekend I did a 2 step LSP on my car. The LSP is DGPS 3.0. My dad surprised me by sending me the Black Label Diamond Paint Coating this week.

I want to try out the coating. I have the surface cleansing polish as well.

How would it be best to remove the DGPS and use the coating. The car doesn’t need another wash as it hasn’t been driven or left the garage. I just want the coating to work properly and stick well to the paint.

Edit: The car blocking me in the driveway is my other car. It will possibly get the same treatment and has a fresh DGPS on it as well!

I’m not sure that the Surface Cleansing Polish (SCP) alone would remove new WGDGPS. If you had some degreaser or McKee’s Coating Prep Wash Soap, that could maybe degrade WG enough before SCP... otherwise you may need to redo a finishing polish step, in which case you could use a paint prep spray afterwards rather than applying the SCP.
 
Option 2 would be to enjoy WGDGPS for now and prep with SCP in the fall and coat at that time.
 
Unfortunately that isn’t an option. This is my last weekend off of work. And then I will be at sea underwater potentially until the Christmas time frame.

I’m more interested in why your going to be underwater at sea until Christmas.

I’m in the Navy and attached to a submarine. Ships go to sea. I’m not going to sea next week, but can’t post when I am going to sea. But my work load from now until getting back from sea will not allow me to detail. That and spending the time I do have off work with family.

The surface cleansing polish should do the trick. It’s designed to remove to remove waxes, polymers and other contaminants and prep for the coating.

I want to believe that’s the case, but I’m skeptical based on reading the accounts of others. It would make me very happy as I bought a bunch for that reason, before reading that it may not remove fresh sealants.

Definitely worth trying at least a section and see if the paint seems bare afterwards... and let us know.
 
Go over it with a finishing polish then use IPA or one of the many panel wipe products out there to wipe it down before coating.
 
you could do a spot on the hood with the paint prep polish, then clean it with IPA or a panel wipe then put water on that area. If it beads or the water immediately sheets off there is still sealant, if it slowly sheets off there is no sealant.

I pretty sure the surface prep polish will take it off. That stuff would probably remove a lot if the consumer grade coatings.

If you're not sure then as I mentioned earlier go over it with a finishing polish and do a chemical wipe down before coating.
 
DaveT435 is absolutely correct. The prep polish is made for that purpose and it works.
I wasn’t going to say anything because I got ripped on Autogeek 101 on this topic.
Someone told the guy to use acid.
PBL prep polish will work. If you want to be safe wipe it down with something like Eraser after the prep polish.

Thanks for the good info. Maybe I was involved in that other thread. I’ve read a lot of back and forth on the subject.
 
Is it safe to assume that Surface Cleansing Polish will NOT remove coating though? I believe this is the case, as people polish the coating with this to clean it or before adding another coating layer on top of the existing *I think*.
 
I had WG DGPS on my wife's car. It was only on for 4 weeks. I used Gyeon Prep on it before using Gyeon CanCoat. It worked great.
