Black Magic GTI Scratch Assistance needed :(

Hello! So My GTI encountered the trash can on it's way out of the garage yesterday. The edge where the truck hooks on it is sharp and.... I'll let the pictures do the talking. What are my options? I can barely feel the scratches with my fingernail, but I can feel them.. Scratches THIS deep are a little out of my area of expertise. Not really ready to get repainted, looking to hide as much (and as well) as possible. Thank you in advance!!

How about wet sanding? You can probably use a 1500 grit, follow that up with a 3000 grit, and then polish it out with your DA.

I agree, wet sanding should take the scratch out, also looks like you have a bit of orange peel going on

Yes and no, Very minimal experience with wet sanding. What I typically do is you tube search, find a reputable tutorial, then try it on a small area with very light pressure (like a quarter size test spot) then correct with the rupes and repeat. I error on the side of cautious. Any tips?

Start off gentle..i would be surprised if you needed anything more stronger than a 2000 grit for that.

My process;

-wash
-clay
- put an ounce or two of a dedicated soap (i use mr.pink) and dilute that with 16oz of warm water (in a 16oz sprayer)
- spray the sand paper with it (generously) on both sides to soften it up
-spray the small area you are working with, and as you move up or down, or side to side only, keep spraying for maximum lubricity.
- You may wanna tape off any area that you do not want to wet sand.
- Clean off the 1st grit
- do the same thing again but with a lighter grit.
- After sanding with 3000 or higher grit, take your DA and a pad of your choice (i do white polishing pad) and a polish, and work that in.
-wipe off
--should be good

Ah..yes.. i forgot to add that. To ensure even application!

If you want to do it asap and do not have the products, places such as Advance Auto parts carries most items needed. If no rush, you can order from AG.

Some of it appears that it may come out with compounding. Try FG400 with your rupes first. After that would i think of sanding what did not come out.
