I bought a used 96 miata last september. I wanted something to keep me occupied since I had run out of projects. My youngest son had past away in Dec 06. My wife thought a project car would help pass time. The Miata was owned by a 63 yr old divorcee. The car has 52,000 miles on it. Triple black with outstanding interior. The outside looks great except for the fact the lady must have used wet paper towels to try cleaning bird droppings off it. There are lots of water spots and fine scratches that won't polish out. I have used scratch out and some clear coat rubbing compound on the hood and trunk. I have gotten a lot of the marks out, but many still remain. The spots appear to be etched into the paint. I am pretty anal about my cars and hate the spots. I have debated on a PC 7424 thinking this will be the only way to clean the paint . I don't mind the labor of doing it by hand if there is a way to do so with the correct product. What do you folks would recommend for the task? Thanks for your time and suggestions.

First off, welcome to the forum! Secondly, you have my profound sympathies over the loss of your son.

I love Miata's and I'd love to have one as a project like you. It sounds like a PC, UDM, etc are in orer to get out the swirls and fine scratches. Some of the spots may not come out. I have what appears to be some spots etched fro bird droppings or perhaps egg. Nothing is going to get that out using a PC.

Good luck with the car and please post some pictures.

Welcome aboard and I'm sorry to hear about your loss. If you want something a little more powerful than a PC 7424 you can always move to the flex, which has been receiving fantastic reviews on this site.

Good luck, have fun and let us know what you decide.

Welcome and good luck with the car. Trying polish out the water spots and find scratches my hand with never work. The PC 7424 if propably the least expensive polisher on the market that will do the job. It may take more passes then some of the other polishers but you will be happy with the results in the end if you take your time and try and do a good job. Sorry to hear about your son. I know detailing my cars takes my mind off other things going on in my life.

Best of luck!
Gary

Thanks for all your kind thoughts I figured it would take a machine to get the spots out. Just washed it and am trying more hand work. Shines great just can't get the spots out. looks like there is a 7424 in my future. Here are a few pics of my toy.

Nice looking car. After you machine polish it, it's going to look great. I wish my garages looked that clean.
