Black paint

Im considering buying a new honda civic Si this summer and id like a black one, looking for input on how hondas most recent paints have been. I own a 1997 civic and the paint is great, but ive read that recently their paints are pretty thin and dont hold up well, any input is appreciated

Crows feet. Bad paint I wouldn't get it. I had a 07 si sedan. I would pass on it

06 Civic SI owner here, although in a different color (fiji blue pearl). The paint is very, VERY soft and will scratch if you even breathe on it. My color, and the one you're interested in, (nighthawk black pearl) have a problem with crow's feet and other clear coat failure on the horizontal surfaces of the car.

I got fed up and put an order in for a brand new WRX about a month ago because Honda turned down my warranty claim for nasty crow's feet on the hood. The paint is such a nice color, but it makes me want to cry when I look at the hood.

Honda is pretty bad about admitting a problem and taking care of it.
 
I made the mistake of purchasing it used in July of 2012 without doing any research on these kinds of issues, and am suffering the consequences down the road.

The problem is that these cars are meant to be daily drivers, but the paint is not designed to hold up long enough to justify owning one for an extended amount of time. By the time you went to trade it in or sell it, you're taking a bigger hit than you should based on the crappy condition of the paint.

I just cant recommend one based on my own experience, as well as all of the other horror stories out there on honda forums.

yup, even though they said if you have warranty or the extended warranty that they WILL cover the crows feet and CC failure. yet 90% of my friends that went in for it got turned down
 
Damn...that seems to be a huge problem, making me rethink this decision...my 97 civic still has great looking paint for being almost 16 yrs old...What happened Honda! Thanks for your input

i have a 2010 honda accord and the clear coat is insanely thin. I got my car opti-coated after about a year because i noticed very fine scratches.
 
I did a Paint correction for a friend , it was a Honda Civic, 2007
By the time I got it there was little I could do to improve the look.
Couldn't beleive how little paint was on the car.
I did this two months ago.
 
Black paint is challenging to keep up with but it is also probably the best looking when it is shined up. If the car is new then you can coat it with something that will negate most any "faults" in the factory paint. Tell Honda dealer to do nothing to prep your new vehicle. My opinion is that you will find just as many negative as you will positive for a new Honda. Go for it if you like it. Just take care of it when you get it and all will be fine.
 
That's exactly where I'm at now, I own a night hawk black 2006 civic sedan with clear coat fading away from hood, roof and trunk. Its scratched beyond believe, I did a test spot last night with a PC (hex-logic orange & white pad) m105 and m205. It removed about 90% of scratches after two passes with both compound and polish. I'm actually debating in between an extra fine wet sanding or just settle with the 90% correction.
 
my mom has an 04 accord and has a lot of clear coat failure...
 
We have a 2007 Honda Fit and it is black peral. Its been totally re-bodied two times due to huge hail. This last repair I noticed how bad the paint looks mostly due to them. It is also now my 18yr old daughters car and I saw bluejean scratches all over the hood!!! I explained that this is not a 78 LTD with a steel hood LOLOLOL. I am spening this weekend working on it with som HD UNO and New B&S pads.

Realiabily wise, its the tops! 120 grand on it and going strong!
