Hello,

What are Geeks using on plastic grills to make them look factory fresh and how do you maintain once done

My v's is plastidipped since it comes in the aweful chrome mess. I just recoat when needed.
I'm currently experimenting to find what works on my wife's g8 though. Used a bottle brush to try and clean, but it still looks a bit dirty like it's stained.
 
If you're referring to textured plastic grill, I use TW Endura Trim Coat and maintain with a flagged tip brush and car wash soap.. Blow dry with Master Blaster Sidekick.

If so it's very simliar to the RS4 grill on my car. Again, I use WETS. It' good, not perfect, as in lasts forever, but then, not much will. It does keep it glossy and coated so dirt and water are easiliy removed. Key for me is to use a drying aid like a rinseless solution mixed up and then to use a blower to dry it. Once every couple washes I use my finger and a soft MF rag to simply clean all the openings. 5-8 mins of PIA work but it looks great.

If you have the time Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant works very well and it lasts for awhile.

If you are looking for something quick then Meguiar's Plastic & Vinyl Coating works very well for these type of areas. The only downside is that it's durability is short lived. About 2-3 weeks. But it's quick to use and can be used often.
 
The g8 grill is homeycombed like that.
I spot tested various trim and tire dressings the other day after cleaning with a degreaser, ipa, and a small bottle brush. The test products included Dg 271, wets, stoner foaming tire cleaner, meguiar's ubpr, some old back2black, and a couple others. I put a thick application of each and let them set a couple hours. I can't speak for longevity but the Duragloss 271 darkened the best followed by the stoner, then wets even though it left a dry area. The other results weren't worth mentioning.

I recleaned with some mckee's trr and the smallest wheel woolie and it looks quite a bit better just from that. Now I need to retreat. I'm debating using the mckees tire coating (used it on the engine plastics, cai, and polymer intake manifold with great results. Although they aren't faded they look new, clean, and dust isn't attacting), the DG 271, or I found a thread elsewhere where I saw an optimum rep suggested using opt-lense on trim....and since I have some and need to coat the headlights.....
May try test spots again and see.

I'm curious how well the mckee's rv uv50 would work.
 
I forgot about Meguiars D4510 Plastic & Vinyl Coating. That would probably work the best. I hear Stoners Trim Shine is similar. 2-4 weeks longevity is plenty long for it.

What's Meguiars ubpr?

There no way on earth you could've removed the aerosol version easily with Mckees trr or any other cleaner. Lol.

Good point. The aerosol version is pretty darn durable. If the op decides to use it, I would definitely tape off the surrounding areas as you and I both know it's a pain to remove any overspray.
