Last week I got a phone call from a friend asking me if I could get water spots off of a Jet Ski. The conversation went something like this.
Me: On your red one?
Him: No I bought a black one at the beginning of summer and it’s bad
Me: black???
Him: Yeah it was a left over and I got a good deal on it, I still have the red one. My son has been riding it lot this summer and it looks really bad now. He tried to wax it once earlier in the summer but it really needs cleaned up, it looks ugly.
Me: Well I can give it a try. Send me a text with some pics of it.
Me: You’re right it is bad!
Him: Told you, I bought some Meguiars marine compound and tried it by hand and it won’t touch them.
Me: Ok bring it by Saturday morning and we’ll see what I can do.

So here is the project when it arrived. I’m posting a lot of before pictures just to show the amount of water spots and river gunk that was on it.
Dull and lifeless.

Wax on the textured front bumper and hood trim.

Water spots on the hood.

Left foot well.

Right foot well.

Wax on the left mirror trim.

Left outside coated with water spots and river gunk from sitting in the water.

Rear rubber cushions and body covered in water spots, wax and river gunk.

Water spots on the mirrors and gauges.

Cleaning up the trim with Mothers beta trim cleaner.

Works on Vinyl decals also

These are matte black decals with wax on them. The Mothers trim cleaner cleaned off the wax and restored the matte finish.

Now that all of the trim had been cleaned up it was time to start on the rest of it and see if any of the water spots would wash off. So I started with a strong mix of DG901 and APC in a foam gun and let it dwell.

Dirt gone, water spots prevail. Once dried 95% of the water spots were still there. Plan B. I used White Vinegar in a spray bottle and soaked it top to bottom and let it dwell for about 5 minutes. All the water spots wiped right off but then the real horror revealed itself. A jet black swirled up scratched up Jet Ski.

This thing reminded me of a Stealth fighter plane with all of the sharp edges. Might as well get taping this is going to take awhile.

Now that’s how it should look!

My favorite shot.

Thanks for looking hope you enjoyed it.

Hard to believe that a 5 minute dwell of white vinegar got rid of all those water spots - wow. I was expecting to see pics of some heavy polishing!

Very nice job.

Oh there was some heavy polishing before I used the vinegar. I actually tried about 5 different combo's before I remembered reading vinegar works sometimes. S I thought I would give it a shot and got lucky it doesn't always work. But even with them gone it took about 8 hours to complete.

Very nice! Vinegar is now in my cabinet. I did a Dodge ram last week, that had horrible water spots. White vinegar saved my day!

Cool :xyxthumbs: Now I need to by two bottles, one to replace the one I took from the kitchen and another for the garage.

That finish is literally stunning. It looks better than when I see them on the show room floor.

I am going to use your vinegar method on a few XP's we have. Thanks for the helpful tip!

How much did you charge for this job? I have something similar coming up in a few weeks and not sure how to go about pricing.
