This customer had booked his truck for me to do a few months ago. I was looking forward to doing it yet was also intimidated by its immense size. Like the other vehicle I did for them, the coating of choice was CQF. Their Camaro is wearing it and they are immensely pleased with its performance.

Here it is as it arrived:

As usual I started with the wheels and tires. The wheel barrels were cleaned with Tarminator and then with Zep Citrus while the faces were done with the ZC. The wells were cleaned with LATA and the tires with Zep 505. The barrels as well as the wheel wells themselves were then shot with CarPro Hydro to help keep them clean without removing them. I got to show him the Hydro in action when he came back with the touch up paint.

The truck was then hand washed with DG 901. That was followed by a hand wash with IronX paste. I then brought it inside to clay with my Speedy Prep towel. It barely fit in my garage and I HAD to have it be in deep enough to close the door...you'll see why in a minute.

It was very hot out this weekend. This was the temp inside my garage.

Enough of that nonsense!! As I've always said "Both the products AND the operator work better in cooler temps". Here is what the garage was eventually cooled down to:

Anyway, once inside I could inspect the paint more closely. The finish was strange along the edge of the driver's door (sorry for the blurry pic):

The monstrous hood was going to need some TLC to get rid of these swirls!

The right top side of the tailgate had a nasty gouge that I filled afterward:

The 3 pane rear window was badly water marked. I used Danese Water mark remover by hand with a foam applicator. It did a pretty good job. The glass was coated with CQF later on.

The paint was corrected with a 2 stage approach using Megs 105 + TB wool + Flex 3401 followed by M205 + white B/S + Flex. Eraser was used afterward. The chrome was polished with a yellow B/S + M205. The trim was coated with DLux. The wheels, paint, head and tail lights and chrome were all double coated with CQF as well as all the glass except the windshield. It got Fly By 30 X2. The tires were shot via air gun with Opti Bond.

Here it is all done:

Hood all done:

Setting sun shot:

Thanks for looking!

Great job! How did you fix that gouge and any pictures of before/after?

Marvelous work, you turned that work truck into a fine piece of artwork

Fantastic. The plastic trim looks new. I am going to have to get DLux. How long did this one take?

I did fill it, yes and unfortunately I forgot to shoot it afterward. It came out pretty good, but not perfect. It certainly doesn't scream for your attention like it did before!

Thanks very much James!

Mike, I truly love DLux!!

Great job Richy!!! The paint looks amazing!

That truck is massive! How long did the entire detail take you?

Wow those temps sound nice. It was low 100s during my last detail. Even my machine was overheating..

You did a fantastic job buddy:)
Thanks very much man!!

I think it took about 15 hours if I recall. I hate detailing in that heat. It's especially difficult if you're sweating on panels that you're trying to coat. Coatings don't like water when they're being applied!

Another amazing job Richy. You must have been flying to finish off that beast in 15 hours.

I actually did that truck a few weeks back so I'm trying to remember exactly how long it took but I sure think it was right around that time. It's doing correction that adds to it and of course I was a solid 3 hours coating it whereas 2-2.5 is normal for most mid sized vehicles.

Thanks though! I appreciate you taking the time to comment!!

I own a GMC 2500 also. Its spring cleaning took about the same amount of time. Got rid of swirls and winter crud. The effort was worth it .

Nice truck! It's like a giant billboard for proper paint when it's done up right.

Approximately how much DLux did you use on all that trim? Did you do the cowl?

I don't remember how much exactly but a fair amount. The bottle is smaller now so it seems you get a lot fewer vehicles out of it!

I have a newer Tundra and I just wanted to make sure you didn't say something like "oh I could have done the trim on the truck 10 times". After doing the front bumper, rear bumper, plastic bed rail caps, door handles, side mirrors and cowl I've gone through probably 1/4 to 1/3 of the bottle. I thought it seemed like a lot at first but then remembered how big the pieces were I was using it on!
