Good answer you already got above, I can add my 2 cents,
I'm a frequent user of pinnacle Black Label line of coatings, and none of them are intended for use on trim as well (maybe the surface?).
However, from my testing and experience it works amazing on trim and any other surface.
What I can advance is to do a thorough cleansing (my favorite (by far) is Meguiar's #39 heavy duty cleaner), them apply the coating. Best way for me is to apply product into a MF towel then spread over piece, them remove residue with a clean towel.
Your trim will look not only restored but will bead water and offer easy cleansing like a coated surface should be. I also apply on rubber (same cleansing, same effect). The looks are fantastic for me, factory matte / clean. For chrome it works as well.
I know products are different, but I felt important to share my experience applying coating to trim, it's (in my opinion) way better than most trim dressings available for that task that will wash away.
(PS: Controversy occurs with people considering trim too much porous for the coating to adhere, etc, etc, etc. Again, in my opinion, theory is a thing, practice is another thing).
