Today was a great day to do just about anything but I decided to spend it trying out a new product on a customers 2003 Toyota Camry XLE...

Like most here, I have a routine I follow when detailing and this is the order of operation.

  1. Interior
  2. Door Jams
  3. Engine Bay
  4. Wheels & Tires
  5. Exterior Surfaces
  6. Exterior Glass
  7. Plastic & Rubber Trim
  8. Tire Dressing
While this doesn't get into a lot of detail, it does give you an idea of how I work. I've found that this keeps me from having to "re-detail" areas because of recontaminating something.

After a wash and clay, I wanted to see how BlackFire Total Polish and Seal performed and the finish on this Camry was a perfect candidate. The finish was in decent shape. Because it's silver it doesn't show a lot of defects but if you looked close enough they are there.

Tires & Wheels

  • Meguiar's Super Degreaser
  • Chemical Guys Diablo Wheel cleaner
  • CarPro PERL
  • PoorBoy's World Wheel Sealant.
Engine Compartment

  • Meguiar's Super Degreaser
  • CarPro PERL
Trim

  • Wolfgang Vinyl & Rubber Protectant
Glass

  • Meguiar's D-120 Glass Cleaner
  • Cobra Waffle Weave Glass Towel
Wash

Washing and claying went pretty much as expected. I used P21S Bodywork Conditioning Shampoo. It's a very mild shampoo and not a lot of suds but it did a decent job.

Clay

Claying again was straight forward. I used Meguiar's Professional Detailing Clay and while it did remove the embedded particles the finish was glass smooth ready to give BlackFire Total Polish and Seal a test drive..

Polish

Even though I normally use my Flex 3401, I have an old reliable Porter Cable 7424 first generation dual action polisher. I've had this for close to 14 years and it just keep on ticking....probably made by Timex...

I used a 5 1/2" Lake Country White flat pad as it's perfectly suited for this product and application. I also have a Meguiar's Pad Washer that I wanted to see if it really fulfilled it claims so I'll add this to the detail/review.

BLACKFIRE Total Polish & Seal
is an all-in-one polish and paint sealant that delivers a smooth shine in one quick step. BLACKFIRE Total Polish & Seal is a light swirl remover, pre-wax cleanser and paint sealant all in one!

The product is a blue a blue cream and is very easy to work with and apply.

What I didn't realize it how dirty the paint actually was and how efficient and easy BLACKFIRE Total Polish & Seal removed it leaving the finish clean and bright!

I set the machine speed to 5 and worked a 2X2 area and a 3 sectional pass for each. BLACKFIRE Total Polish & Seal cleaned and did a decent job at removing minor swirls and like defects.

To give you some idea of how nicely this product removed oxidation and grime take a look at how dirty the White foam pad was...yes, this was white.

Meguiar's Pad Washer

This was my first time using one of these so being the skeptic it had to prove itself.

I mixed a packet of pad cleaner in a separate pail to insure it dissolved before pouring it in the pad washer.

Once everything was full I actuated it several times and it did appear to at least pump solution up to the grit-guard..

After using it according to the instructions here's the result; a clean foam pad...compare the before and after......

Conclusion - It works...

I didn't take any before shots but the after shots were impressive and BLACKFIRE Total Polish & Seal is a quality, easy to use product. It leaves the finish clean, shinny, smooth, and protected.

Buffing was effortless. I used a Cobra Deluxe Jr. 600 Microfiber Towel to quickly remove the haze leaving a gorgeous shine.

A few reflection shots

Very nice and detailed review Bobby!!

With the pad washer, how many pads did you use?

Thank you!

1 pad and washed it 5 times. :props:

Wow that's awesome! From my experience though, the pad is too damp to use after washing it with the pad washer. How do you get to use it right away?

Hey Mark,

I let it spin for about 4 or 5 seconds in the washer then placed the foam pad on a terrycloth towel compressing it fully and it was surprisingly dry ready to use. I've also spun them up on a rotary to remove most of the water which was very effective, although not this time.

Ah that technique sounds like a great idea! Thanks!

I know about the rotary but I don't have one yet.

Nice review Bobby, and great job on the car. I have used this product twice with less than desirable results so it's nice to see it works for someone.

Thanks for sharing Bobby I haven't taken the plunge yet on the pad washer but every time I would take the drive to AG for the Thursday night makeovers I used it every chance I had .It's plain and simple it works

Great job on the car but the write up and photos are incredible. Thanks for sharing.

great job . I do see something yellow in the background there in one of them pics . is it what I'm thinking ?

Yes it is! Good eyes Chad!! :props:

I took it out and got it inspected today and a short ride.....Get you motor running, head out on the highway.....:dblthumb2:

I used it by hand the other day and was impressed by it. Have not used it with my G110 yet. Definitely easy to use by hand.

Thanks for taking the time for your write-up/review BobbyG...And your detail (inside and outside) on your customer's vehicle looks great.

I haven't tried "The Blackfire Line-up" yet; but, then again, you and others seem to have excellent results with its various products.

Also...I definitely need to look into getting a pad washer!

:)

Bob

Great review for the pad washer. I was looking at getting one because sometimes I'm too lazy to hand wash mine. This looks like a fast and easy way to get them on the go.
