blackfire wd, but thinking of a wax under 50$

One carnauba wax that falls in this under $50 price category is Griot's Premium highest grade carnauba paste wax. I generally use sealants but recently tried Collinite 845 wax and was very impressed, however, I wanted a bit of a richer, less sterile look. I ordered the Griot the other day to try out as it seemed like a pretty good deal considering the tin gives you nearly a pound of wax! If it is to be applied super thin like most LSPs that should certainly last me a good long time.

I have been very happy with many of the Griot products and have to assume this is their top of the line and a true quality wax. The Griot "Best of Show" wax, which has been in their line a long time, has very good reviews although I heard it can be a bit difficult to work with if you leave it on too long without buffing (but do that with any wax and they are all difficult to remove). The Premium wax is suppose to be a step up from "Best of Show" but that is all I know about it.

I have not received it yet so this is not an endorsement but I wanted to know if anyone has used this Griot Premium wax and what they thought of it. It has been out a while now but I have seen very few reviews in my searches on this product.

andrew really likes this wax too. I have not tried it. But I have tried best of show and hated it. It is terrible on white cars. It doesn't fully rub off and leaves a slight brown tint. I always prefer paste over liquid waxes.

Thanks, I have a white car and if this is a characteristic for all the Griot waxes I will be very disappointed. I think I will try it on one or two panels and see what it looks like before I do the whole car.

The paste should be fine. Ask andrew about it. He says that it is the best bargain wax right now. I'm sure you would like it. Andrew is very picky about waxes and I trust his opinion.

Only the best in show is terrible. It's brown, runny, and difficult to remove. And it doesn't look good on white. It's probably because it's hard to remove that there's some residue left and the reason why it looks "dirty".
 
Yes, I have heard that Griot's "Best of Show" was very difficult to work with but until you just reminded me, I had forgotten it is a liquid wax. Their Premium wax I ordered is indeed a traditional paste and should be much easier to remove.

And I agree with Andrew that it is a bargain, at least it appears to be. I thought it was a pound of wax and I just looked it up and it is actually 14oz. Well, that is almost a pound and should last for two or three years at least! At around $35 a tin that is a deal - if it is any good that is. I notice the description also shows the tin to be huge so I might even be able to get my whole polisher pad in there making things even easier. If it performs and looks good on my white SUV I will be very happy with my decision to buy it. I'll report back when I have had a chance to apply it. Right now, the 845 is still going strong with periodic sprays of AquaWax as a post-wash "topper".

One thing I noticed just the other day with 845 is that after a rain the beads are tightly packed. That is to be expected but what was surprising is that after the car sits in the garage overnight, the water is totally gone the next day with no trace or spots whatsoever - the water just seemed like it evaporated completely. Even my best sealants showed a little hint the car had been rained on. This Griot wax has a lot of work cut out for it to beat the Collinite 845!
 
Yes I'm famous!!!!!

The Griots premium wax is a huge bargain. Considering how cheap it is and the fact it beats all AG house brands (imo). I actually know a few guys who used it at shows. 4-5 layers and the paint will be really glossy. Its so cheap toi, anyone can be liberal with it. Plus the wife can is a bonus!
