I am going to do my wife's car next weekend using the Blacklight, V7 combo, and top it with a wax, my question is are you putting on the Blacklight by hand or using a DA? or does it not matter?

Blacklight can be used by DA or hand. I would prefer using a DA polisher for purpose of speed and product use. You use less product when using a machine compared to hand. And of course using a machine is faster than hand. :xyxthumbs:

Ok, great I have yet to use my PC, so this will be a great first test

First of all....great selection. Secondly if you want to have BL do some cleaning and polishing you need to use a DA polisher with a polishing pad on speed 4 with medium pressure. I like the HT tangerine or LC white pad. If you applying just to use as a sealant or applying a second coat then apply by hand.

That's some great info, thank you! I think I will just be using it as a sealant, but that is always subject ti change once I get into it

:iagree: DA for sure, for refining use black pad.

With a DA, mainly because I use it for it's cleaning and filling properties.

Here's my rule of thumb. ANYTHING liquid, I apply via DA. Anything solid, like a paste, I apply by hand and an MF/foam applicator.

For Blacklight, if I am using it as my final polish, I go with a gray pad, speed 6, medium pressure. If glaze/sealant, red pad, speed 3 max.

Voila.

BL is one of THE best products out there. Period. I've been detailing for years, and have wayyyyyyyyy too many LSPs. Blacklight has the edge for me.

You want to know another teeny secret???

Apply V7 on top of BL....

game, set, match.

:iagree: thanks Silverfox... for enlightening me to V7.

Awesome, even though I do this M-F as my job, Im super pumped to try this stuff this weekend on her car!!

To concur, Blacklight is a very good product. Similar to CG's EZ Creme Glaze, but offering some durability.

After correcting the paint, I apply BL with a black pad and basically jewel the paint with it.... wait 15 min., wipe off, then wait 30 min. to cure and do a second coat by hand and after this cures do HV7 wipe down. Finish is glossy, wet, and slick!

Topping with a carnauba or sealant is optional but will extend durability. I'm an old school paste carnuaba guy, so at the next wash I usually top BL with 5050, Petes or Fuzion.....still use HV7 to amp up slickness.

I ordered some CG XXX carnuba to put overtop of the Blacklight

I used Pete's 53 on top of BL on my bike, it turned out awesome.

I used BL solo on my Civic with a wh ite LC pad. Didn't see much correction, but there was a noticeable difference. I did it as more of a test, as it will need a full correction when I get the time.

ditto for me using prima amigo on a black pad...

not much correction/filling but wow what a shine.

Only reason I didn't go with BL is cause I've used it already by hand and the Prima was starting to feel neglected...

Im not going for correction at this point, just a nice shine, should I use a LC White pad?

Use gray if your paint is in good condition.
Use white if you want a little more cleaning ability with BL.

Hmmm people seem to keep saying that using a black pad will use a little of BL's cleaning abilities. What if I just want to use it as an LSP? Would using a soft finishing pad be more helpful? Or would I completely need to do it by hand? (i.e. in the case of putting a glaze under BL)

isn't BL an AIO?

It does stain trim so to me that means it has cleaners which might take off your glaze, especially if you use a machine to apply it.

CG even says to do the second coat of BL by hand, probably to minimize removal of the first layer of BL...
