This little "gem" is a pre-sold unit (2006 with 40/k), so the dealer wanted a good clean and decent finish...not the usual Cut/Compound/Polish/Etc. Lots of swirls and light scratches on this ride.

So, I revert back to one of my all-time favorite products that produces good results: Meguiar's #83. Aside from a little caking of product on the panels from working too big an area, I was able to polish the car in 1 night and finished it today with another good product: Meguiar's #26. Overall, the combo produces a very nice finish and one the new owner will be proud of.

Gotta finish the interior tonight...then start on another Black Bimmer!

Holy crap, nice work. The 3rd pic makes the car look brand new and about to be delivered, but cleaner than the dealer would prep it.

#83 really works well with a polish pad and the rotary. Plus, the car did have swirls and some scratches (which I wet sanded and compounded), but wasn't too bad compared to other's that I've done.

Gotta scoot....finish up this interior and let the carpeting dry before tomorrow's delivery.

Looks good Master Toto. I agree that third picture you posted makes the vehicle look as though it's brand new. Very nice work.

You just make those look like mirrors. Another impressive job. Fun to look at.
 
Hey Gary! If you look at the hood edge, you can see where I wet sanded and tried to remove a heckuva scratch. I didn't get it all the way out, but it's still there.

I've got a Black X3 to start and there are a half-dozen spots to take care of with the sand paper. But the rest of vehicle will probably get the #83/#26 treatment.

I'm sorry, I must've not been on here long enough to understand but I want to ask you something.

The pictures look REALLY great, and it looks like you removed and fixed all the swirls and scratches.

But you said you didn't remove swirls, just used DACP? How is that different and what is the time difference between the two?

m4gician: I should have phrased my thread differently. Sorry for the confusion. Yes, the DACP did remove the swirls (but not every deep scratch) which is usually what I do at the shop. When a recondition a car for dealer inventory, I remove every scratch possible. That usually involves wet sanding, wool or foam compounding, polishing and glazing. And finally wax. One some black Bimmers, I might spend 12-16 hours on the paint finish alone. Because these cars are for sale, I try to bring the vehicle back to "as new" condition (interior and exterior) as possible.

For this vehicle, I used DACP to remove swirls, but there were a few deep scratches that remained. And, the time it took to complete was drastically shortened from my normal reconditioning process.

Hope that helps understand what the difference in process was.

Toto..when I get a Bimmer to do..I always aspire to reach your results..you've set the bar very high!!
