BMW 650i Convertible

OK. So, a lot of you guys probably saw the thread about the free gift I received from Autogeek . . .

Well, I finally had a chance to try out my new jar of Souveran. I've used Souveran in the past, but it's been several years since my last jar ran out.

Anyway, the first car is my dad's BMW 650i convertible. I recently gave this car a full detail inside & out. It had some light marring which I polished out using Menzerna FPII. Then I protected the results with a coat of Collonite 845. Unfortunately, my dad took the car through a car wash about a week later. :mad: After washing the car about a week after that I spotted some random light marring. I wasn't about to polish it again. So, I just added a coat of Souveran. I did give my dad a stern lecture about car washes which he will probably ignore. :rolleyes:

I also added a coat of Souveran to my own car, a Silverstone Honda S2000. A few months ago I polished the car with XMT #1 and since have applied 3 coats of Collonite 845. It's only washed by me so it's pretty much free of scratches. :cool:

Here are the pics. Sorry they're not the best the light was fading quickly. So, I didn't have a chance to get my tripod. Plus, it was a windy 30*F out. So, as you can imagine I was rushing.

Great job, man. BMW 650 is one of the hottest import convertibles. Windows are not tinted??? That's one thing that car is missing.

Once again, tow thumbs up!
 
Looks awesome, but I prefer the coupe to the vert and I prefer the M to the 50 or 45. ;)

Nobody tints their windows in MA. There's no point really except for looks. In fact, I'd probably have to look around pretty hard just to find a place that does tint.

I will say that the 650 is a PITA to polish. So, many creases, curves, cracks, and crevices in the body.
 
Very, very nice work!
I had a yellow S2000 back in 2002 and loved it (you all know I love yellow!). Only wish I knew then what I know about detailing now. Souveran would STAY in the glove box....errrr center console! It's always a relief for me to get to work on some nice cars. I'm sure you enjoyed yourself.

I like the depth that the car has, looks really good. Question, how did you apply and remove the Collonite 845?
 
Good looking cars, good looking shine. Souveran looks niiiiiice on black, must get me some one day......
 
What a magnificent car, it's currently my wife's favorite out there. I'll be sure NOT to show her this thread!!!

Yeah. My dad takes my little nephew out every Sunday morning for breakfast and then takes him to the "car shower." He loves it and its a lot of fun for him. The car is actually leaving to go to FL tomorrow (my parents are "snow birds") and my dad will be having someone hand wash the car there. Although, he'll probably shop based on price and not on quality of work. So, it will come back up to MA this spring swirled to heck.

I usually use a yellow foam wax applicator to apply the Collonite. I find I get the thinnest application of wax with a foam applicator. Then I let it haze until it passes the Mike Philips "wax swipe test." Basically you swipe your finger on the paint and if the wax smears it still too wet. However, if it swipes clean then it's time to remove. I use Cobra Jr's to remove the haze.

I was embarassed about keeping maxwax in the center console for about a month now...

:D
