So I recently got a chance to basically start running my detailing business out of a body shop.

Now I have to change up my products for obvious reason I can only use body shop safe products.

Does anyone else work in a body shop? If so what products are you using?

I know all of my compounds are body shop safe but as far as everything else I'm not 100% sure I haven't looked into it very much.

Right now I'm just looking for some different options that you have used and liked

Thanks!

Menzerna and Meguiars at the two that come to mind.

You need to be sure to read the labels of anything you use to make sure the say body shop safe.

Dressings are going to be your main concern. As long as you aren't applying wax or sealant on their cars, you should be OK. Maybe avoid spray waxes and sealants though.

If you are near where they do paint prep or bondo sanding, be prepared to be very frustrated every day. The dust gets on/in everything.

I recommend buying some of those plastic walls, so you can have your own clean room away from all the bondo dust.

I did some research and found some dressing that are body shop safe. I do need to figure out something for a wax though. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that yet.

Yes the dust gets everywhere but the cars I'm going to be working on will only be in there for a few hours it takes a day or two for cars to get really dusty in there. Even if they do get dusty all you have to do is blow it off its not to bad

Its not practical for the location. Thanks for the idea though

I've done a little research but still haven't found what i'm looking for yet. I need to figure out what I'm going to do about paint protection. On the new panels I will just use a paint sealant meant for new paint but what should I do on the rest of the car?

Thanks

I used whatever waxes I wanted when I worked in a body shop. I just avoided spray waxes. I would apply wax by hand or DA. Never had any contamination problems.

Maybe Mike or another member that has a greater understanding of the chemical aspects of detailing in a body shop will chime in.

My work was always more negatively affected by the painters and body techs than vice versa. Body dust floating around while using a rotary can make bad things happen.

I'm sure just using a regular wax would be fine and not cause any problems but I really don't want to take the risk. There has to be some good body shop safe sealants out there. I know they make some for fresh paint so I would think there would be a few other options out there

If your going to be working in a body shop and working on fresh paint here are two articles to read through

For body shop fresh paint, I use Rupes polishes, Menz and POLISHANGEL.

For waxing and sealant I have sealed brand new paint no problems. Even wrapped and PPF on it.

I used to detail in a bodyshop, they told me never to use anything that is silicone based. As it can travel to cars they are prepping for paint. Hope this helps you some.

I tried working out of a bodyshop and didn't last more than a month. The dust was something that was a major factor and made me give up on the idea. It would get all over the place (interior and exterior). Good luck!

Ok I will look into them Thank you. I just want to have a few different options to try

Yes it can get dusty in there but its really not all that bad. If needed it cleans up easily

Keep a bucket with some ONR and towels next to you so you can wipe down the panels as you polish.

You will need a handful of finishing polishes and pads. Ever car spray will be a little different and you will need a system.

I can't remember what products it was exactly, its been over 9 yrs ago.

I planned always keeping some quick detailer close by to wipe down a panel before buffing if it looks like any dust is on it.

I have several finishing polishes I'm just trying to find a good sealant that I can use. I have one that is meant for fresh paint which I plan on using I also would like to find one to use on all there other cars

There has to be some product out there.

So far I have only found one product that is a sealant that's body shop safe is the Optimum GPS spray sealant.

Has anyone used any of these spray products? I'm curious on how well they really work
