All my Super Detailing Professionals...

How long has it taken for you to acquire a commercial shop? How much overhead has it created?

I currently detail from my residence in a mostly enclosed environment. I feel business is flaky at times because people look down upon the fact that I do this from my residence. What do you think?

I don't have a commercial shop but until someone answers I can give you generalities.

Remember that commercial spaces are very expensive. Depending on the city you live in it can go anywhere from 10$ to 30$ per square feet per year. So you are looking at a minimum of about 900$ per month and it can get pretty high if you want something big in an expensive area.

Then you have to add insurrance, electricity, phone line, and other services. Businesses are billed at a higher rate than individuals. You are probably looking at something like 100-200$ per month for that.

Then you have to have staff in place, this can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending who you hire. But let's say you only have 1 employe at something like 10$ per hour, that's an other 1800$ per month plus what ever you have to pay the goverment.

So you are looking at roughly 3000$ per month for a barebone office. Not even talking about furniture and other expenses here.

So you got to ask yourself, can you make an extra 3000$ per month because you have this office? If not it's not Worth it.

If you go with a car wash or a place where you can detail (garage) then it would be a little different. You could hire people to do detailing for you and make extra money from the fixed location. I am sure some of the people here will be able to tell you about that.
