Bought a Dyson Vac

It all comes apart. When you pull the canister off, you empty it with a touch of a button. Hold it over a trash can, hit the button with your thumb, and the bottom swings open and drops the dirt out. AWESOME.

The yellow top comes off, and does not need to be cleaned. Maybe blown out with air twice a year. The filters, you wash by hand. The salesman says he cleans his once, maybe twice a year.....

For a small area there is one called the "Shark" that a lot of people are raving about. It looks like a little minature Dyson. We bought one at Bed, Bath, Beyond for approx. $79.
We've got the Hoover but the filters are getting harder and harder to find the older it gets. We definitly want to make the same Dyson you got our next vacuum. Congrats on your buy.

My parents and my inlaws have the Shark and it is horrible. The filter constantly gets clogged. I think it's due to the canister with filter design. In all fairness, my shop vac has the same issues. Dust and dirt clog the filters. It is easily fixed by blowing the filter out with my air compressor.

Unless you have an air compressor, I would really recommend a Hoover with a bag. I bought my Hoover about 6 years ago from Costco for ~$200. It uses a bag but also has a Hepa filter for the air flow out of the vac. It is still working as strong as it did on day one. The bags are easily found at Walmart and the filter is still very clean (the filtered bags help with keeping the Hepa filter clean.) It came with a very nice extension hose, attachments, and a spinning brush attachment for the hose (OK for cars.)

I use the vacuum everyday literally. I have two small kids and we vacuum our entire dining room after every meal because the kids always drop food.

In the 6 years, I've had to replace the belt for the spinning brush on the main unit twice. All it takes is a screwdriver and the belts are 2 for <$10 at Walmart.

To be fair, with all of that said, the Dyson will be my next vacuum too when the Hoover goes. I like the bagless and clogless design of the Dyson. My brother has it and it's really nice. The problem I have is that I can't justify replacing the Hoover unless it dies and it shows no signs of dying. :(

I have to admit, I was looking at the Dyson Vac when my wife and I were looking for something to combat my allergies. We have pets, and we wanted something that we could use and never buy a filter. We browsed around, and several people told us that the Dyson was a toy compared to other vacuums. So... we had the money and tried a Rainbow. Yeah, is a $1k machine, but it pulls the hell out of everything! Not the best for a car or for working on near freezing temps, but it's good for the house, and the air smells cleaner after we use it.

We bought the E-2 model, which comes with an HEPA filter, and the extra option if a air filter and purifier speed. Comes with an 8-year warranty and it's so easy to use. The only down side about it is to clean the water container after use, but for normal households, this should not take more than 5 minutes.

Here's a pic after i used it on my car's trunck and mats...

GROSS! I know, but it was a while before I was able to vacuum the car. I'll buy a Shop-Vac for the cars only...

Run almost any vacuum over a cleaned floor and you'll get pretty much the same results. It's a famous "Kirby" sales technique. They'll never do the reverse test with your own vacuum and for good reason. I myself did the same test and was surprised.

The Dyson is a good vacuum, so are the Hoover windtunnels. If you want serious stuff the Oreck and Nilfisk vacuums could be considered but are expensive... get what you pay for? Hard to say, we use the Nilfisk in an industrial setting and have NEVER had one fail in 12+ years. That's pretty impressive. Granted we don't use it every day, but still.

the handheld is mighty cute also !

I've heard the performance is disappointing and isn't worthy of the Dyson name. Do you have one killer?
