What is a good product to use on a 13 shelby for protecting rims from brake dust? And also for cleaning tires to keep it that black clean look?


I see armour all has a product for both but is there anything better out there?
 
Mothers seems to have its all wheel and tire cleaner which is cheap, not acidic and does a great job
 
I like Griots Garage to clean and Poorboys Wheel Sealant to keep the wheels clean. I've also used Klasse AIO on wheels and it works nicely as well. The dust just rinses off easy during a wash.
 
I have started washing all the wheels I see with Amazing Roll Off first, then hitting them with Iron-X. That gets me to an absolutely clean starting point.
Tire finish is such a personal choice depending on the amount of shine ypou want that I would have to say just try a few and see what you like.
For wheel protection I have recently started using Opti-Coat 2.0 on them.
But a good (and much cheaper) alternative would be one of the wheel sealants.

Are both great sealants for your wheels.
 
When I owned a BWM 128i, the brake dust is terrible. Every week it was a fight to clean the wheels. The product that worked best on keeping the dust off, is Armour All wheel Protectent. With the Armour All the whell had at lease 805 less brake dust after a week of driving.
 
I've been using Collinite 854 or Wheel Wax for the wheels to help reduce on the brake dusting caking up and both have done wonders. Even if it does cake up on the wheels, it washes off very easily. As for the tires......been using Bleche White for wuite some time and don't plan on changing that anytime soon!
 
Rejex works very well on my chrome wheels. Keeps them nice and slick so that the brake dust wipes off easily.
 
To protect the wheels and keep brake dust from sticking, Detailer's Wheel Glaze is tough to beat. It is easy to apply and leaves a super slick shiny finish that brake dust has a hard time sticking to.

Regularly clean your tires with Detailer's Wheel Cleaner to keep them looking brand spankin' new.

You don't get a black clean look from cleaning the tires. After cleaning with a good APC the rubber will look dull and matte. Use a tire dressing to get the black satin look back. I don't like a shiney look and use Opti-Bond Tire Gel. GTechniq C5 is a great coating to protect your wheels, but a little pricey. Another alternative that works well and less expensive is Blackfire Metal Sealant for wheels.
 
I use Megs Super Degreaser (@ 4:1 or 10:1) & a stiff brush for cleaning tyres. Brilliant!
Collinite 845 for wheel protection, although I plan on getting some new wheels soon & these will get OC before they're fitted...
 
I don't like the super gloss tire shine either, what brands are there that turn the tires nice and black and protect but without the greasy shine? I was thinking about trying ADAMS SUPER VRT but it's pricey!

Megs Hyper Dressing 4:1 applied lightly with an airbrush. :props:
 
Try PERL on tires.

Clean the tires then throughout your clean apply three (diluted) layers when the tire is dry.

It leaves a very clean looking satin black finish that has lasted me three weeks so far, with very little up keep.

It survived hurricance Sandy in MA...

TomG mentions a great protective product be CarPro.

CarPro PERL is an easy to apply product which leaves the tire and trim with a satin glow and lasts for at least 4 to 6 weeks.

For wheels you can use car wax, sealant's, or one of my favorites; Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0. Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 is a hard permanent coating that does a great job adding that protective shield keeping brake dust, dirt, and grime at bay...
 
Cleaning: OPC/ 3:1, or Brown Royale... allows me to safely clean tires and rims. Follow up if needed with Iron X.
Seal: 845, or Opti Seal (have Poor Boys wheel sealant, smells nice but the protection seems negligable)
Tires: Opti Bond
Side note... I never realized how much I like Optimum products until just now
 
Just us Autoglym non acid wheel cleaner and you won't need anything else. Break dust & dirt simply melt away. If interested, send me a PM and i'll give u the contact info. Nothing and I mean nothing else compares.
 
I always used to be a Westley's BW fan, especially for whitewalls, it seemed to be effective, easily gotten, and resonably priced in the past.

Lately, I'm not so sure anymore? Seems like this product doesn't have the kick it once had, it's almost like I'm spraying the tire with just water, and trying to scrub out the dirt, and after rinsiing, and drying, there's still lots there that hasn't come off.

I think what I'm dealing with, is tires that have been previously treated with the Armor All type products. Is it this product that makes tires a bear to clean?

I need to find something else easily gotten, and that won't lighten the wallet too much. I'd prefer to not having to resort to high toxicity petro chemicals. Mark

Diablo wheel gel, it does not run off like other wheel and tire cleaners, it's a gel so it sticks while it works and you can agitate without wasting and worring about it running off like the competitors. Also you can dilute it to whatever strength you want. Safe for any single wheel make out there.
