In a week I am taking delivery of a new Black C7 Corvette. I plan to not have the dealer wash it, bring it home, wash and clay the car, and then use Rejex to protect and shine the paint. I was told instead of Rejex, use Blackfire Coating Prep, then Blackfire Crystal Coat, and then the next day Wolfgang Deep gloss Paint Seal. I want to do everything that I can to protect against swirl marks. I am open for suggestions.

As much as I like doing it myself, I'd find an authorized pro detailer and have it coated with Opticoat Pro+ and then wash it like a baby.

All those excellent products won't matter if your washing and drying techniques aren't up to par. Make sure you've got those in line and you should be swirl free for some time.

A coating would probably be your best bet, I've had some success with cquk but it's also the only one I've ever used. As for swirls, invest in some Meg's 114, I use it as a presoak for rinseless, a waterless, and a drying aid to add some lubrication. Good drying microfibers are also pretty critical but try to avoid wiping, I've found the best method for me is to lay the towel out flat and run my hands over it like I'm trying to flatten it out more. Any time you rub the paint, you are risking swirls.

Everyone runs to coatings ,I am a cquartz certified installer and I can tell you the sizzle in the steak is not there yes very hydrophobic yes gives good shine yes to protection. You can apply 400 coats of coating it's not gonna prevent marring in anyway and if you're not experience don't even attempt it.I don't know you're skill level as far as machine work.more than likely you will hopefully have the vette swirl free.Ive done 1 vette black and a red z06 paint was flawless. If you want superior affordable easy to use good durability make you're life easy apply 2 coats of 476 collinite liquid wax,if you choose the paste version it may marr the finish ,get good microfiber towels rip the tag off and if you wash car ,I would invest in a blower that ag sells. And be gentle drying it from top to bottom. With proper washing habits the paint will be stunning. Or pay 1200 for Cq coating that maybe you will get a year out of .Also very low ph soap don't let it dry on car keep it wet at all times.Good luck that car is awesome.

:iagree: The 2 most important things in keeping any ride swirl free

I agree.

Everything comes down to how you touch the paint.

I have a number of projects in the work that go over this very specific topic. I also teach this topic in my detailing classes, that is,

  1. The Aggressive Method for washing a car
  2. The Gentle Method for washing a car

The OP definitely wants to use the gentle method especially after he gets the paint all sealed up.

Me?

I'd get a Foam Gun with the 1/2 gallon jug, DP Xtreme Foam Shampoo, 3 Microfiber Chenille Wash Mitts, a DP Turbo Car Dryer, a few Guzzlers Waffle Weave Drying Towels.

(Used all of the above at 6:30am yesterday morning to wash my 2-door Chevy)

Then just "think" as you're going through the motions and don't scrub the paint.

Also to the OP... READ THIS ARTICLE and take the advice in it.

DON'T WASH CAR !!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on the new 2-door Chevy...

Here's a step-by-step article on what to do when you get the new Corvette home...

How To Detail Your Brand New Car by Mike Phillips

It all depends on what you enjoy doing, too. If you enjoy washing and waxing/sealing then a coating is pointless. Also, is this a daily driver or just a nice weather weekend car? If it's the latter I would invest in a quality carnauba wax or sealant like Wolfgang. That will give you plenty of protection.

First of all:
:welcome: ...to AGO!

In a week I am taking delivery of a new Black C7 Corvette.
Congratulations...
I have no doubts that you're gonna love it!

I plan to not have the dealer wash it, bring it home, wash and clay the car, and then use Rejex to protect and shine the paint.
Sounds like a good plan. :props:

One thing I'll add is that:
Whenever I clay, I'll also use, at the very least,
a mild polish...like Meguiar's M205...before the
application of a Sealant-LSP (Rejex, in this case).

I was told instead of Rejex, use Blackfire Coating Prep, then Blackfire Crystal Coat, and then the next day Wolfgang Deep gloss Paint Seal.
You'll get a zillion different suggestions
on which LSPs are the best.

However, IMO:
If you're not well-versed in the Coating-LSPs arena...
I'd suggest that you stay within the Sealant-LSP
category for the time being.

I want to do everything that I can to protect against swirl marks.
Find out all you can about the proper methods
to wash/dry a vehicle. That's where the majority
of swirls usually come from.

I wouldn't use foam gun, soap is your worst enemy if that was my car I would use little bit of hair conditioner. Take a 5 gallon bucket 1 table spoon of conditioner and fill bucket with water works every time.If you can get a eggcrate slice a big square out of it and use it to lather paint. Its so soft and easy to inspect for particles .good luck on the new ride

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!

You do realize that the OP has an
incoming vehicle similar to this one:

Not like this one...
(I'd bet not even in a million years!)

By Wikipedia's description of "hair conditioner" there maybe some useful ingredients. Maybe it's like a no rinse with #7. Not sure if all would leave a streak free surface.

Glossers, antistatic properties, oils, cross-linking polymers...

Now...Don't get all tangled-up here. :)

I've been doing the conditioner wash along time ,use very little biolage is the conditioner.I have a black 2013 e class and 2013 charger,I don't like doing my cars cause I do it for a living When I purchased them I coated them with cq. There are no swirls or dulling and doesn't seem to breaking down cq.

You can do it. :xyxthumbs:

I have had a 69 Camaro as my DD for 3 1/2 years with 28,000 miles driven in those years. It's still 98%. Here's what I have done:

Always garaged. Never driven in rain. Always have used a California Duster properly. Clay, polish, cleansing lotion, sealant and wax every three months. Cleansing lotion, sealant and wax every 6 weeks (unless the schedule calls for clay and polish). AS needed, use quality pre-wetted microfiber towels with Meg's UQD to clean. Pre-spray "tough" spots like pollen, bird bombs etc with Meg's UQD and let soak for a few minutes. THEN wipe lightly with the pre-wetted microfiber towel. Get rid of bird bombs, pollen spots etc immediately when you see them.

Beyond that, I'd suggest "clear bra" in all the appropriate places.

Good luck.

Please post up some pics of your personal swirl free rides of yours that you've been using conditioner on, inquiring minds want to see.
