Building a new garage!

Great work! Love seeing the progress on the garage. As an apartment dweller, I'm jealous of anyone with a garage!

Congrats, over insulate, add too much light, and buy as much storage as possible!

Awesome project! What kind of money is involved in building a garage like yours?

Are you doing most of the work yourself or are you hiring pros to do it?

Hiring a construction company to do it. Not sure of the exact cost (this is my dad's house and he is paying for the new garage), but I'd guesstimate probably about 30k for the new garage and the driveway (extra cost added for insulation, drain tile, and water hookup).

Looks like it is coming along nicely. Having been around construction my entire life (dad owns a construction company) I typically find many flaws when looking at a job in progress, but so far I really like what I'm seeing. What stands out most to me is the number of outlet and light boxes, well above and beyond code. Doing it right for sure!

In addition to what woob said, you can't have too many outlets either.

That platform is nice too.

Looks very nice so far Shane!! I'm excited for you man!!

Any idea (maybe I overlooked it) what finish if any will be on the interior walls? Maybe you can talk Dad into doing at least one wall with a vapor barrier covered by peg board. That makes organization so easy and changeable as time goes on. The vapor barrier is important lest you have a ton of 8 legged friends as a detailing audience.

The spiders in my shop (no vapor barrier) are actually my friends though. It seems that the mosquitoes and flies are aware of their presence, or the spiders are efficient killers as I'm not bothered one bit by pesty insects all year long.

I too am impressed with the work platform. You are one lucky dude to have use of either one of those garages.

I believe the interior walls will be chipboard. The vapor barrier is on the exterior and will be under the vinyl siding.

Vapor barrier, side trim pieces (white trim under the shingles), and windows in place (the vapor barrier cover over the door opening is temporary so they can work inside without freezing their butts off - there is a temporary cover over the main garage door opening as well)

Ceiling is up (open area is for pull-down so part of the overhead area can be used for storage)

Few updated pics. Things are coming along (albeit a bit slowly, due to the weather :work:). Hopefully we get some nice weather soon so they can finish up.

The interior walls were going in today. No pics of that though. Will update as I can. :xyxthumbs:

Haven't updated this thread in a couple of weeks, so here's some new pics I took this morning. Getting close now! Still have to pour the driveway (which should begin on Monday), put in the line for the water spigot, put the gutters on, paint some trim, and some other small things.

Gravel is down for the base of the driveway
