Luck of the draw?

Me...I got lucky...53 years last week.

I wouldn't say it's luck. Staying married that long takes dedication and work. I'm going on 20 years this summer myself, and it's been worth it every day...even if I didn't realize it at the time. If there was any luck in the equation, it was finding the right woman at the start.

They also keep your neighbor from painting their house purple with pink doors and green shutters and parking their 1996 impala with no wheels on it sitting on blocks covered with a blue tarp for all the neighbors to enjoy looking at

Not all associations are bad, some are a little too controlling for me but they have their place

I agree with you in that generally i would prefer not to live in an association area
