Bumper scratch

Just ordered the PC7424XP, complete newbie to all this. The car has a lot of swirls and hairline scratches I want to correct. I plan to better address this damage later but what is the best short term solution? Will it catch and tear the pad. Is there a good short term solution?

Thanks

I would guess that it would catch and tear the pad, even if it doesn't do that, there would be a high chance that some paint flecks would get off and get caught in the pad, putting swirls in the paint, the only suggestion I can give if you're not going to fix it before polishing, is to cover it with some painters tape.

Also use the same painters tape to cover emblems, chrome, the edge of windows, etc etc as those can be damaged by the polish itself, or can muck up the pad, etc etc.

I would like to address the scratch first but I am already dealing with some water spots because the paint hasn't been sealed or waxed in a bit. I figured once I got it cleaned up I would try to address the chips.

Those scratches look pretty deep. It appears to be down to the primer. Touch up paint and wet sanding might be the only cure.

If I went anywhere near that with a pad I would discard pad after using it, and I would not touch anywhere near that big piece....its down to the primer, you are looking at getting some paint to fix that, not a buffer.

Seeing both pictures helps....that looks pretty small. Some of it can be buffed out or better yet wetsanded and then buffed. The deeper parts that went through to the plastic simply use some touch up paint. I would recommend that you use some ISA alcohol and wipe the area first then apply a couple light coats of paint. Hopefully you bought some orange or yellow pads and a good Compounding polish like Megs 105 or Menzerna Powergloss (M105 is better in my opinion) and a finishing polish like 106ff/fa or ultrafina or po85rd with a white finishing pad? Good Luck! Remember with the PC patience is key when polishing. Don't expect awesome results in 2 hours. You can obtain amazing results with the PC if you take your time and allow the polish to work.

Could I use a dremmel tool to cut/grind the torn paint and plastic?

Thanks for all your help and advice.
