burning through clear coat

On a red test panel (that has hail damage) I figured I would try the UHS pad and compound on the panel. While I got good results, I turned the pad over to see a hint of red surrounding the hole. It wasn't very noticeable, but as detailed as I am, I was able to see it. I preceded by taking a white applicator pad and white polish and rubbing around the area I polished. There was no red paint on the applicator pad when I finished. I am confused as to how red got on the pad but I wasn't able to get it on the applicator. Any help would Be appreciated.
 
It's very possible that the panel you were working on had red tintcoat instead of clearcoat. What kind of car did the panel come off of? If you know then you can Google that vehicle and color and it will tell if it's tintcoat.
 
Or single stage, I know Toyota uses a single stage paint for their non metallic reds

Sorry no help from me, but I will say this. While compounding a jam on my own car I burnt through the clear by accident that's when I learned the car had previous body work done. Although I beat myself up for it all the time, a buddy helped me see that it was actually a learning experience.

what made you burn through it? what were u doing?
 
There were some marks in the jamb that "I thought "I could correct with my machine and oops.

what kind of machine a rotary or da? what kind of compound were you using? im still trying to gauge just how much it takes to go through the clear.

It was a newer model Buick, I have been told that Buick does still currently use tinted clear coat. I'm pretty positive it's just the tinted clear coat. I referred to mikes book where he talked about tinted clear and provided a picture of a pad that had tinted clear on it and it closely resembled my pad, so I think I can officially say it's tinted clear.
