Hey guys so as some of you know, I detail in my free time to earn some extra money and cause I love doing it. I'm a college kid and right now am travelling home to NC to detail occasionally on weekends. I was thinking of expanding my business here in my area and thought business cards would be a good idea. However, I'm not a "business" per say in that I don't have a FB page, website, etc it's just something I do on the side. Think it would be worth it to make cards? I also don't know if I'll be doing this once I graduate next year since I will most likely be moving away.

Thoughts?

I think it would be good so that they have your contact information, but ideally, you should really be getting theirs.

I don't see how it could hurt. You can get 100 cards from a place like VistaPrint for under $10. If they generate just 1 client, they have just paid for themselves. Just put your name, phone, email, and something to say what it is you do, such as "High End Auto Detailing".

Good point. I'm playing around with card designs now and am wondering if I should list my instagram as that's pretty much my only form of social media I have.

I would give a few to any clients you do work for, and ask them to give them to any family/friends who would need your services. It's almost zero effort on your part, and like I said, even if you get 1 client from them, it was worth it.

Hey hokie335i do you happen to go to Va Tech ? Have a business card with your contact info will help out alot, word of mouth and quality work will help get your name out there also .

Sent from my SPH-L710 using AG Online

Yeah I go to VT, last year here though.

Word of mouth is how I've gotten all of my business at home so far and has given me way more business than I can handle which is good!

I'll work up some business card designs to really try and reach out to the clientele that I am targeting.

VistaPrint nice work

I used them for a charity I volunteered with

Cant beat the price and their logo on the back is tiny

In your position...I would go with VistaPrint "Free" cards

I wouldn't get em.. just post your work from your personal Instagram

If someone wants you to detail their car, get THEIR email and directly email them

Business cards, website, social media pages are not needed

You could put your business card in the driver's window/door on nicer cars that are swirled. Someone will bite.

I thought about that but am not big on the idea of being annoying when advertising by sticking them on windows. Plus I'm targeting a wealthier clientele that probably wouldn't respond well to cards shoved under wipers. Maybe that's just my thinking though.

I was thinking more of passing out cards if I was talking to someone about it and they seemed interested or they knew someone who would be interested.

Go for it. Moo Cards is another good option. They offer mini cards as well that I think are pretty cool for a small amount of content, I used them for my wedding registry. Name, email, phone and Instagram link would be all you need.

Thoughts? It's my first design attempt. I'm an engineer, not a graphic designer haha. Picture quality is bad because of the file format. The picture itself is a high quality picture

Had my graphic design friend give me a hand. She knocked it out in 10 mins this morning. What do you all think??

To make the card more "current"

Have it as @merritt_detailing instead of a link. Looks better, IMO, and no one is going to type out a link anyway. That's how I have it on my card: @personaltouchautodetailingva
