Business Cards Under Wipers?

Okay, so I would like some feedback on something from as many people as possible.

I see cars pretty much everywhere I go that are just trashed (siwrls, faded trim, filthy wheels, etc.) and I almost feel bad for the car because it's treated so poorly and really needs a proper detail. I've often thought about leaving one of my business cards under the windshield wiper with a personal note saying something like "we can restore your faded trim" or something like that but then I start thinking that the owners would take offense like I'm making fun of their car or something.

I typically hate flyers left under my windshield wiper but that's generally because they are completely pointless like a generic religious message or some sort of sale to a store I don't even go to. I am talking about something much more personal like a note written directly to the owner of the car.

So what do you all think? Have any of you done anything like this with any type of success? Your thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.

I tried it a few years ago for headlight restoration but it didn't do much for business except one guy who claimed my card scratched his windshield!

Then went to a small flyer showing before and after shots of a restored headlight. Got some jobs, but by far the most business has come from referrals. Many of the early restores (2008-2009) which I did for free or low cost (neighbore, friends, co-workers) generated alot of work. A satisfied customer is now your free salesman.

Fro commercial work I would do a freebee to show them. About 90% of the demos got me either restorations or I sold them product and they did it themselves.

That must have been some flyer. :) I don't do it nor do I like finding stuff on my car. Goes right in the trash w/o even looking at it.

No, it was the way the monkey grabbed aholdof the mechanism that did it in. I'm sure he/she was in a big hurry to get to the next car :)

I view handing out business cards as an investment. I don't give them out unless I am fairly certain I will get something back.

If I got a note like that I would feel offended. Give your card to car dealerships and other people who can recommend your services. Rather than just placing them on vehicles and rolling the dice.

Detail customers are ones who go searching for a detailer. I would generate some word of mouth advertising by giving good deals in a local neighborhood and when the people see how you made their neighbors vehicle look amazing, they will get your info from them and call you. That is what I did.
