Business DBA & Logo Copyrights?

Here's a slogan I came up with while driving and reading all this.:) "Save money, and give your auto the million dollar look." Kinda long but it kinds of points out why I chose exotic. In order for your car to be exotic doesn't need to be a high end expensive car.

You can drive a G35 for example with a black wet shiny look, polish out chrome rims, a nice glossy shiny tire shine and basically you got a exotic look.

Not bad but a bit long as you said... I would play with that a bit and see if you can shorten it up... Like "Give your auto the million dollar look!" or "Give your auto the Exotic look!" don't worry about the save money part or you may be inviting $ critisizms from potential customers that are used to the $50.00 car wash detail hacks....

So what about the family mini van? You pointed out at G35 which may not be a Porsche or Ferrari, but it's still a classier car than your daily minivan or toyota corolla.

Also having the Exotic portion in your name I think may deter your daily drivers. IMO of course. You think Exotic Detailing and I personally think of Exotic cars.

You seen my big van.:)

Yes I know. I'm just trying to look at it from a customers point of view...

Ok my van is a perfect example. The van is a 00, the only person to really clean that van and is no easy task has been me. My father is a cab driver. His customers envy him thinking our van is like 05 because it doesn't look that bad. Our friends think that van is not that old when it really is. I seen the newer conversion van and they are crazy. Like a limo inside basically.

So first the first time I'm giving the van a paint correction. Is not that bad you seen the test spot.

So why would people envy us when they see us driving our 00 van? Because it has the exotic look!!! :)

:dblthumb2: Thanks for the help!

Now seriously if you dont mind or anyone else willing to guide me about the whole LLC process.

I am thinking in forming one and run my DBA under it. I know a lawyer kind of friend with me and I am going to see if he can copyright my logo and slogan.

I can't stress enough that if you're not very clear on how to run a business, it would be in your best interest to pay for a consultation with a lawyer and/or take a class at the local community college on how to write up a business plan.

:dblthumb2: Finally used the ignore list. Honestly if you don't have anything good to say to help the person seeking help, keep your fingers from writing non sense stuff. Got tired of his crap :nomore: Im the MAN

Yes, I know what you mean by looking at it from your point of view. But he is a two face guy. A couple of months behind we had an argument in a different forum. So he end up leaving telling me to never come to him for advised and that he would never send me comments of advice

Well ever since that day he didn't keep his word and I did. He always has something negative to say.

His last comment here was " I can't stress enough that if you're not very clear on how to run a business."

I mean seriously who is pointing a gun at your head to stress over my problems.

Thats why ever since that day I been ignoring what he writes but him himself yesterday posted on a thread that you can add a member on your ignore list and I did now know that. :props:

I was raised well so I don't stress these kind of people and thats that!

Let this be a lesson to all of those who are reading the thread.... all EAD just did was prove the point I made to him several months ago, which was that he appears to be approaching his business from an uninformed and immature perspective, and that it wasn't going to lead to success. He rejected my advice purely because I was the source of it and added me to his ignore list -- a very plainly immature move.

Here are the hard statistics: 50% of small businesses fail within one year, 80% within 5 years. That is not an opinion, that is a FACT. Why is that? Well, one of the leading causes is the business owner being uninformed about the legal aspects of operating a business, as well as not writing and following a proper business plan.

You can think that I'm just being negative, you can think that I'm just trying to discourage people, but that's far from the case. As someone who does have a successful small business and has some formal business education, I hate to see people fail, and I hate even more to see them outright ignore the absolute key things that separate success from failure.

Oh well.... I can try leading a horse to water, not my problem if it dies of dehydration. Im the MAN

This is very true... I would take his advice because LOTS of business fail within the first year. But since you mobile, your overhead is very small but if your not making $$$ you won't be able to pay bills.

And like I have said earlier having Exotic detailing seems like your narrowing the cars you going detail to Lambo, Ferrari and over $70k cars.

I hope you do well but you should take his advice and seek some legal help before you make big moves. GL with everything.

Shiny makes some great points and facts here. It is true that the majority of small businesses fail.

Just because someone points out something that you may not agree with does not mean he's trying to be negative. He's simply telling you, you should seek some advice of lawyer to ensure you are following the proper channels and doing this right.

As you've stated before you had a business which you had to close, so technically this would be your 2nd time around trying your business.

You made the point earlier about your van. That's great that people admire your 2000 van and think it's newer than it is. However, that doesn't say anything for your name or slogan. IMO. The name Exotic is going to deter your average Joe from contacting you I think because they are going to only look at your name and assume you specialize in only exotic rides. Again that's my opinion. If you have a soccer mom that drives say a minivan or suv looking up on google for detailers in the area and Exotic Detailing comes up along with say Jim's Detailing or (another generic name) they are going to be more prone to go towards the generic name just because they figure they deal with more daily drivers than Exotic would.

You can take this with a grain of salt, I'm just trying to help with your name since it seems your not seeing it from an outsiders point of view. You have to think about how your customer is going to look at your company not how you or your friends/family look at it.

A business plan is great idea and actually I'm in the process of writing mine. A business plan isn't a legal document that you need however it sets your goals and for the company and allows you to judge yourself based off of that. Sort of as a guideline. It can be changed later on but it gives you something to work off of.

I'd listen to Shiny, he has some great info especially since he does run a successful small business.

Jay yes sir, I also decided to start my business plan today. I stop by the store and got me a notebook.:)

I also read somewhere not a lot of auto detail company tend to write a good one. But I realize I got all these ideas and execution plan in my head that I decided to write them down to keep track of them.

As far as I remember what I learned in the past after doing some reading. Forming an LLC company is the route I'm taking. My accountant is going to help me with that she been busy but time will tell how I execute that task I need to take care.

Here's a curiosity I been wondering if anyone can help. Can you run different business DBA names under one LLC company? If yes is there a limit?

Exotic - you need to do a little research yourself man.
Let me google that for you

Since you have already seen the first link in the above search, I recommend the second one for starters.

All the questions you are asking have already been answered. Coming here and asking for people to give you this information is just laziness on your part.

I am not trying to be a jerk, but a business takes initiative, so I am just trying to motivate you. :) Donald Trump once said "You can help create your own luck, you can make things happen through hard work and intelligence."

I remember wondering that, so I actually looked it up, and I found my answer within just a few minutes.

Another link for your arsenal on these types of question (100% serious).
