Hey guys so i contacted the mall near by and they dont mind if i leave flyers in the windows of the cars in the lot. My parents company have one of those massive $40,000 Richo printers that can print a number of things in a matter of seconds. With that said im going to print out some flyers and leave them in the car windows at the mall. I know this isnt the best approach but im desperate at the moment. So even if out of 200 flyers i get 1 person ill be happy.

My question is ive never made a flyer and the one i just came up with looked like crap. For those of you who have done a flyer or any form of paper advertisement post what you came up with to help me come up with some ideas? My intention isnt to steal an idea hahaha i just need some inspiration in regards to what its supposed to look like. Thanks guys :dblthumb2:

Of course the Mall doesn't mind you putting flyers on cars...
Those cars, are not their cars!!

You're right...this isn't the best approach!

If it pi$$e$ off somebody like easy-going-me, when people touch my car without my permission: I can only imagine that most other folks probably feel the same way.

And...
What if that: 1 out of 200...is the one that wants to get up close and personal?

I have been advertising on Craigslist, but it isn't going good at all....
So i am in the same boat as you, except i don't have access to a printer like you lol
Might want to find someone to design the flyer for u?

Find a local car club and arrange a demonstration for them. It's more likely to land you some decent jobs and less likely to pollute the parking lot with flyers everyone tosses.

I tried craiglist and i havent gotten one call from it. I was going to try and design the flyer my self but im not the greatest with photoshop lol so paying to have it done is my last resort

There is actually a mustang club a corvette club and a car forum in my area i was thinking about approaching. Maybe ill do that tomorow.

If you have a Facebook page some neighbor hoods have a page and you could post your page to there page that's what I did tonight I'll let you know if I get any calls

Lol thanks Bob. Yeah cars in the parking lot isnt my ideal way to market. But i was also thinking of leaving the same flyers on the doors in the neighborhoods in my town. Also my sister said she would post them around at her collage. This flyer would also be advertised in the coupon books that get mailed out monthly. The cars in the mall were just going to be the first group of people i market to with the flyer. You do bring up a good point though. Most of the time when i have a flyer on my window i either briefly look at it and throw it on the ground or if people are around crumble it up and throw it in my car. I might just have to reconsider the parking lot approach.

Thats a good idea. Im going to try that.

You need to figure out what you're target market is.

IMO most people hate flyers on their car and will toss it in the garbage or on the ground.

Find local car clubs and car cruises and market yourself there. Find out who the President is of the car clubs and talk with them one on one give them your card and explain to the what you are looking to do. One thing I do not recommend you do is go into the these clubs and just start soliciting to the members. Most clubs have rules on selling services to members so thats why its important to follow the rules and respect the club and speak with the president.

Approach local shops that have anything to do with vehicles and speak with the manager and ask if you can leave some business cards at there location.

You can also go to dealerships as well but know that most will say no that they already have that service but its worth a shot.

Just remember to be professional if they say no thank you just thank them for taking the time to talk with you. :props:

Completely agree. Myself and anybody I've ever talked to about this absolutely hate it. Whether its a vehicle or my front door. Its annoying and comes across as cheap and a "hack-job" company.

Find another way to promote your business. Id suggest find a charitable organization and offer to do detailing work for them to get your name out. Plus, teaming with a charity will show you care about the community.

Not to be too personal but in almost everyone of your threads, you've mentioned how wealthy your parents are. Why can't they help with advertising or a small start up loan?

Thats a good idea. Yeah the flyer on the car or door idea isnt sounding as good as it did in my head initially lol. I like the charitable organization idea. Im going to look into that thanks.

Lol i didnt know i was giving off that vibe. They own a successful company but i dont know if i would use the word wealthy to describe them. Well off maybe but not so much wealthy. For their marketing and advertising they have a company that handles that for them. Id rather not pay a company to do my advertising when for one i only need to reach out to my county and two most of the advertising i could do for my self and save the money. As far as a loan from them i dont really need it and frankly they are the worst people to ever borrow money from lol Hell when i was a kid id ask my dad to borrow 5 bucks. He would hound me until i gave it to him. Im like jeeze dad its only 5 bucks youre really going to give me such a hard time for 5 bucks and he would tell me its not about the money its about the principal, you asked to borrow 5 bucks so i expect you to return it. If you asked to HAVE 5 bucks that would have been different. Id tell him yeah the only difference between me asking to borrow or have is one gets a yes and one gets a no lol. That was with 5 dollars i could only imagine if i now asked for money in the thousands lol But again the money aspect of this isnt my issue. I was just trying to get some inspiration on a flyer but i think im going to reconsider that whole avenue

ive never had luck leaving flyers or cards on cars. ive come to the conclusion that people don't really care for detailing unless they are being sold in person or if theyre actively looking for detailing

its worth a shot though, youve got nothing to lose

you could place 5000 flyers and get 2 returns. you can go to every shopping strip within 20 miles and maybe get 10 in return.

The point of marketing isn't to knock on every door and see who opens

You need an effective marketing strategy to the correct target audience

You need to know who is your customer. What problem do they need solved? What is the path they take to get the problem solved? What is needed to solve these problems? Why should they even consider you to solve their problem? etc..

What marketing strategy do you think would work better:
1) 1000 flyers in random peoples cars
2) getting in contact with a local car enthusiast crew

I tried craiglist and i havent gotten one call from it. I was going to try and design the flyer my self but im not the greatest with photoshop lol so paying to have it done is my last resort

1. Do you have before/after pics of vehicles you've done? If so, put them in your ad. First add to your photobucket account then download to your ad.

2. Offer something for 'FREE' with your ad. A 'FREE' clay bar treatment with purchase of paint correction. A free headlight restoration with purchase of any full detail. A free
wax upgrade or sealant with basic package.

Give them the illusion that they're getting something for nothing. That's what everyone wants.

To build any new business it takes "TIME"! I think its great people want to detail for a living. People want everything now it just doesn't work this way took me 4 years to be booked out 2 months. For every great detailer there are 10 crapy ones so you have to stand out above the crappy ones. Most of my business comes from word of month and great reviews. I do not do production work and never will and I only do one car a day. My customers love that I only focus on their car and make sure everything is done right the first time.

I, for one, would potentially be one of the "up close and personal" customers that Bob was referring to.

I know not everybody cares for their cars the way we do, but honestly, I would NOT trust a "detailer" that disrespects my/others cars by touching them uninvited.

So, you'd have some people very angry, and some people who wouldn't trust a detailer who so desperately wants business (and also touches other peoples cars).

Just playing devil's advocate, not questioning your ability, but as a person with a flyer I would have to think:
If you're such a good detailer why the need to place flyers? Shouldn't you be overwhelmed with business?

You've gotten a lot of advice in this thread about other ways to advertise, and you seem dead set on the flyer idea - ignoring some really solid advice.
Google some flyers if you need samples.

Thanks for the help guys. Thank god for this forum or else id be riddling my county with unwanted flyers lol. As always great advice. :)
Im just trying to get my name out there and initially flyers sounded like a good idea. Luckily though, unlike other forums, you guys are always willing to help a brother out and point them in the right direction. Im greatful i have a group of you guys to get advice from. Again thank you.

So im going to cut the flyer idea out of the equation and take up the good advice you all have given. I said this earlier but didnt get a comment on it. At my sisters collage she says they have a big cork board that people post all kinds of things on. What are your thoughts of me pinning 1 flyer on that?

Who is your target audience? what cars do you want to work on? where are the people with those cars? what area? zip code? what professions are they in? how far away from your home? how many detailers are around your area? how can you connect with everyone? what do they value? why havent they found you?

It doesnt matter if you can get 10000000 people to know about your business.. If they dont convert to sales, then its rather pointless

update posted it on the neighborhood facebook group and got a job and suppose to do her husbands cars and she says some people want there cars done so might lead to more jobs so I would do that if you haven't
