Hey guys ive got a couple of questions....shocker I know lol

1 who do I contact to get a doing business as and business licence?

2 who do I contact about permits?

3 what insurance do I need?

4 when should I do all this for my biz?

Thanks!

are you mobile?

I would do a Google search of your state. i was able do everything online except the doing business as. it take about a week or two for everything.

I waited for my license until i was ready to start working.

1 and 2. check with your state and/or local govt (Where I live nothing required)
3. Most I think have Garage keepers
4. Prob sooner rather than later

0. Go to IRS.gov and get your EIN (employee identification number)
1.after 0. Go to your city all or county annex with EIN and get your DBA.
2. Check city hall for permits needed. You may or may not need it.
3.insurance is good, but may not be needed right this second. Honestly I've been in business for 3 yrs and only have needed insurance when I've done work for a dealership.
4.before you ever print out business cards. Without an EIN you can't get a DBA, without a DBA you can't open a bank account for your biz, without a biz bank account you can't take checks in your business name. So you can see how everything plays on each other.
When you go get a DBA, they check locally to see if there migh be another business already operating with the same or similar name and you don't want that.
So if you already have business cards, your putting your cart ahead of the horse.

I have an LLC.. protects your personal assets from law suits... I recommend it

ive been looing to do this, right now im sole prop, but i would like to be llc or inc, for the law suit protection..
how did you do it? did you do it yourself? or did you hire an attorney?

Not to hijack this thread but while we are on the topics of LLC I dont own anything really worth a damn ( ex wife and California family law are mainly the reason... To bad i couldnt have an LLC to protect my assets from her lol) Do i need to be LLC or sole prop is fine for me?

this LLC I did myself.. just contact your SOS, check the name and fill out forms, send the money.. pretty easy

My 1st LLC, I used Legalzoom i believe was the online company.. but actually pretty easy to do on your own.
