Buying the 7424xp as my first real detailing tool!

NICOBKN,

Forgot to ask. What are you planning to work on? What kind of car and what color?

well my car is a vw golf but it was repainted around 3 years ago.

I will also be working on my dads subaru outback and moms vw

Good choice. You will be happy with it. AG sells a 3.5" backing plate for the 4 in pads.

You will get a million different answers for your wax question. If you want high end the Fuzion and souveran get high marks. I have not used them. They are more money than I want to spend on a wax. For the money, I really like Pinnacle Signature Series II. Goes on easy, comes off easy, does not stain trim and smells great. Not to mention it looks fabulous. If you want cheap, Megs #26 hi-tech yellow liquid is a pleasure to work with and gives a great result.

I use Griots metal polish on my SS exhaust tips on a tatty microfiber towel.

I treat my wheels like paint. They are clear coated aluminum. So I clay them and wax them. I do tend to use a sealant rather than wax on my rims. I clean them with quick detailer in between washes just as I would my paint. Again, I use an old MF towel for the wheels.
Hey thanks for the tips again!!
I think ill go with the Pinnacle Signature Series II as wax.

How often do you clay your wheels ?

sorry about that. i should no better, cause it has taken me some time to pick up on some of the lingo on here.

your on the right track. get the 3.5 backing plate for the 4" pads, i think it's 3.5?

if you wax or seal your rims, it will help with the cleaning. i use the dp... there i go again. detailers pride wheel gel to clean mine, but i don't have allot of brake dust.

Its alright hahaha! I was able to find most abbreviations on google :xyxthumbs:

Anyone has any experience with the P12s Wheel Cleaner Gel ?

When using the polish paste do i need to spray the pads with a "lube" Ive seen it in some videos. People tends to spray them every time the add more paste to the pads..

thank you again guys!:props:

I clay every time I polish or wax. I wax (actually seal) my wheels twice a year. Spring and Fall. So, I clay them twice a year.

P21S Wheel Cleaner Gel is a great product, works well and is very safe.

No, you don't need to spray pads with a conditioner. I prefer not to use any type of pad conditioner, I prefer to prime the pad with product. Just work your product into the pad thoroughly with your fingers... Then add a few small drops of polish. Once the pad is primed there is no need to prime again, until you change to a new pad. (just add a few drops of polish as needed).

what kind of clay should i get ?

for my car and wheels?

last item on the list :)

Best bang for the buck would be either the griots or pinnacle xmt speed clay.

I use Griots. I am not so sure there is a lot of difference among clays. I actually use 3 clays. 1 is for my Mustang only. It never touches another car. 1 is for other cars good areas and the other I split for wheels and bad areas (like the bottom edge of rocker panels and other highly contaminated areas.

If you are new to claying:

If you drop your clay, throw it away. It will pick up gravel etc off the floor. Then you will rub it on your paint and potentially scratch it.

Knead the clay often to keep the paint's contaminates off the surface.

nice list. great choices. 2 things. do you have micro fibers? and you might wanna get some grey pads down the road, and some Wolfgang paint sealant 3.0 for your cars.

good luck, and have fun.

thank you guys!

I love WG DGPS. A little goes a long way. The sample bottle should be enough for a couple of details.

I dont know anything about Costco MFs. Be careful with them and make sure they are not marring your paint.

I do like the gray pads. I use them as a second pass for 205. If I had my PO85rd (in my cart), I would use them for that.

Your list looks like a great start. You will prob end up with more pads and likely some premium MFs. But, no need to hurry.

Of course, we will want pics.

Great choices...Looks like you've done your homework...Great start!!

thank you guys!!

just placed my order and added a few more items!

so excited !!

Go for it! I just got my XP, I use it exclusively with 5.5" & 4" Hydro-Tech pads, 105, 205 and PO85RD. I have found myself needing NOTHING else. The XP handles 99% of everything I've thrown at it. I have set ALL of my CCS pads to the side and have not gone back to them. It's GREAT having only three different pads to choose from as opposed to 5 or 6.
