I had two out of town customers on one weekend. This car was going to be a challenge, I knew before I even saw it. Luckily, the customer wanted it done right and also, wanted it done with the best...CQF. This was to be an inside and outside job, so I scheduled it for 2.5 days. He was down visiting friends for the long weekend, so the timing was perfect!

I had pre-purchased the touch up paint for him so I was all ready to go in that regard. Here it is as it arrived:

A few bugs along for the ride:

Hmmmm.

Wheels needing some love:

YIKES!! A D-I-Y Chip Repair.

The interior was stained with the light coloured leather.

First up as always was the wheels.

Here is Zep 505 working its magic with one application:

The barrels got cleaned first with Tarminator followed by Megs WB, followed by Zep Citrus to neutralize the acid.
The faces were treated with Megs WB followed by Zep Citrus and a wash mitt with DG 901.
The wells were cleaned with LATA.

Next up was the cleaning. First order was to foam the car with a strong mix of DG 901 + Megs Hyper Wash. Looking pretty:

That was followed by DG 901 and rinsed and then IronX paste on a grout sponge to eliminate any metallic contamination. Once rinsed from that final wash stage (and people look at you like you're nuts when you tell them you spent 2 hours just washing their car!!) it was brought inside where the wheels and tires were blown dry with the Master Blaster. The paint and glass were then clayed with a CP Elastofoam block.

Now, the true condition could be seen. Rught row, Raggy!!

A fine collection of Swirls:

A better look at the DIY Repair:

Can we throw in some Scratches??

What's Missing? Oh yeah, a few chips!

Paint Correction:

Now I was starting to worry whether 2.5 days was going to be enough. A few late nights were spent with this babe. For those of you who have a Flex, if you don't have a Tuf Buff black wool pad yet, get one! The correction that can be done with this pad, along with the degree of finish that you can get with it (if you work it properly) has to be seen to be believed. I used M100 as the polish of choice for all but the toughest when it would be substituted for Power Gloss. That stage was followed with Sonax PF and an orange B/S pad on my Rupes. A final pass with DG Squeaky Clean was mandatory to make sure that the correction was true and that the surface was ready to coat. A final ONR wash was still required due to the dust that was being made with all the heavy correction. I usually don't do 50/50 shots, but here is the trunk done that way:

The paint, wheels and glass (except windshield) were done with CQF and then cured with an IR light. The windshield was coated with FlyBy30.

The interior was vacuumed and the leather was cleaned with my amazing AutoGlym Interior Pad. (I have a few extra and ended up selling one to the customer). The leather was then dressed with Ultima IGP. The glass was cleaned with a KD/CarPro glass cloth and one was given to the customer as a gift.

They showed up early and I needed more time on the interior, so I was in a big rush to finish and allow the customer to get back on the road. The weather was crap and had been raining all day. No outside shots were able to be taken, and unfortunately, just a few inside shots due to time. I think you still get an idea the level of finish that had been attained. I was very proud of how this car came out!!

Remember those Hood swirls??

DIY Repair Gone too:

Comments appreciated as always. Thanks for looking!!

Nice work Richy. The camera rarely shows the defects you can see in person. A few of the shots you got really show the defects you were working with. Love the hood shot.

I'm going to assume that was some really hard paint.

Nice work, but it really wasn't too bad to start with. Or I'm unlucky and get nastier cars all the time.

Love the after shots......as always Richy top notch work!

Flippin Flawless Reflection!

Looks good! Black always looks so.desirable when it is polished like glass. Then I remind myself that to keep it that way it is most times a full time job. :)

Looks good as always. You worked some magic on the black caddy. At least the customer wanted it done right, no band-aid job. Thanks for posting and sharing the pictures. Enjoy reading your write ups.

Oh, it sure was. What I didn't put in the write up was that I had tried several different mf pads (B/S; Megs, Opt) that did nothing to put a dent in the defects. At least not nearly as much as needed and that was with the Rupes. I just can't get that system to

Wow, I obviously didn't do a good enough job showing the defects. Every panel was marked. Every panel needed considerable work. MF pads couldn't touch the defects...not one panel! Any nastier than that, and you'd need PG for the whole thing and a rotary at high speed. I have had worse than this, but it was pretty darned bad.

Thank you very much!! I wish I'd got more after shots and some of the interior too...totally missed those! Duh!

Amen to that brother! I truly believe my next vehicle will be white!

Thanks very much. I appreciate people taking the time to respond!

Very nice Richy! Caddies seem to have nice paint.

That's why I wrote this, because I've been watching your threads for a long time and know while those lights probably show you the defects fine there in your garage, they do very little for the camera. I can see around the lights in those pics that the defects are pretty deep and plentiful.

If you had halogens on the car, it'd probably look more like this.

Thanks Dave. Wow, that really shows it on the side! I've been a big fan of your work for years my friend!

Great Job on the Cadillac!
Thank you Sir!:xyxthumbs:

Great work Richy. The after shots are beautiful. I am sure the customer was very pleased.

Beautiful job my friend!!!!!

How did you work the 3401/tuff buff/M100?

Great question Mark! I don't hear of a lot of guys using the TB wool with their Flex and in my humble opinion, they're missing something!
I put 2 or 3 small drops of M100 or 105 on the pad and work an area of no bigger than 2' X 2'. The Flex is set to 6. I work the area slowly and keep going over it till the polish cant be seen. You will work it longer than you're used to. Ease up on the pressure at the end. You'll be amazed at how well this can finish down. The key is not too much product. I should try to do a video.

Wors, thank you very much.

I wish you were closer to Buffalo so I could let you polish my black vette. Very nice job.
