Caked on tape residue left for one week long

Hey AG. I was wondering what can I do to get rid of the nasty and hard tape residue on my dad's car trim. I tried using APC and rubbing it with a mf towel, but it won't budge. Should I try to use Goo Gone and a adhesive remover? I also tried to use PB TR, but it only covers the white color up. I still see the rough texture of the residue left behind. thx for your help guys. :buffing:

I'd try some goo gone or even IPA. That should dissolve the tape residue and remove it. May take a couple times but should come off with no problem.

In my experience its easier to remove after some rain. You can use a spray lubrication like WD-40(note it will remove wax) or you can try gasoline. IPA/goo gone aren't as strong, but start with these. to remove try steel wool #0000 then a terry cloth towel. You could also try a polish like m205 or meg plasticX

Note you will probably need to treat and protect the trim afterwards. I've used forever black.

What kind of trim? I assume it is black trim due to the trim restore product you tried. Which is weird, usually the trim texture doesn;t let tape stick too much. What kind of tape was it?

Adhesive removers from 3M or even goo gone should work. Next step up is a solvent. Be careful not to damage the trim or the surrounding areas with the solvents, though. I used WD-40 to remove emblems from paint before and it worked OK.

If it is black plastic, do not use steel wool! Also, if it is not smooth to begin with don't try polishing either as it will just cause more residue impregnation.

it is a black plastic trim above the windows. I used meg's masking tape. thx for the suggestion guys. I will give those ideas a try and report back.
