This brown spot is one of a few on a blue Audi. It looks is as if it is under the clear coat, but when I detailed the car a few months ago, it wasn't there. If you touch it it is no different than the rest of the paint, perfectly smooth. I can't scrape it with a fingernail or anything. I tried clay bar, APC, but they didn't work.

Does anyone know what this mystery spot could be?

Um...looks like a stain. Why don't you try a paint cleaner or a mild polish? What do you have?

I tried Meg's APC, Optimum Compound II, and Klasse AIO.

To me it looks like a cigarette or something could be the culprit.

I can't identify what it is but if Poorboy's World Pro Polish won't take it out, I doubt that anything would. That's my recommendation for removal of any tough below surface stain like that. PB PP has removed stuff for me that other popular polishes and compounds wouldn't. I'm talking plain old Pro Polish, not Pro Polish 2. PP2 might do it as well but it is really aggressive in comparison to regular PP.

I can see that too. Maybe someone set a lit cigarette on the paint and then it got wet and the tar/nicotine stained the paint. If this is the case, the dark burn mark would have to be sanded and repainted.

:( Correct, if that were that case most likely it would have to be repainted. Do you by any chance live in an apartment complex, or any kinda of living space where balconies overhang parking spaces?

Thanks for the responses. It's a customers car and it's kept in his attached garage. This blob is brown and I think that cigarette tar idea is interesting. The weird thing is there are smaller brown spots in the area besides this one. It had two coats of klasse sg when it got this stain so could hot tar land on klasse and not stick but rather just stain? He said he had it washed at a car wash after I detailed.

I'll use the polisher on it next time with the Optimum ii compound.
