Not sute if this question was asked yet but just wondering if it was ok to coat my wife's suv a few days after doing a polish with essence? I plan to decon and polish the vehicle on one day but am unable to apply my coating on the same day. Will the sio2 in essence harden to the point where it's pointless to coat over and will not bond/merge together? Or should I just use another polish like reflect or similar? Thank you in advance guys!

No you can let it bond cure or whatever black magic happens. Just make sure you clean the surface with something that isn’t going to add anything before your coating. Something like eraser by carpro or prep by Gyeon.

You can absolutely apply your coating over Essence a day or two later... you'll need to ensure the paint is perfectly clean though to get the desired result.

Will the vehicle be driven? Or remain parked in a garage?

It would need a wipe down with something like Eraser or Gyeon Prep, etc. prior to coating.

If you have driven the car, cleaning it first with N-914 (or D114 if you have any) then a final wipe down with Eraser/Prep would be advised.

Keep in mind the more you touch the car the greater the chance of marring the paint.

Best to leave it parked inside for the time between applying Essence and when you are ready to install the coating.

Hopefully the car isn't driven after your polish/correction, but Essence does not need any IPA or Eraser wipe down before applying. It is actually a primer for the coating. My fear would be introducing micro marring or towel marring with that unnecessary step.

This is directly from Car-Pro....

2 - Do I have to use Eraser between Essence and CQuartz?

If you're using Essence by machine and you wait until the vehicle is finished then you can apply Reload or CQuartz after you finish the vehicle starting in the same direction you polished. If you want to be ultra safe you can still Eraser but in our testings to date we have not seen any failure when we skipped Eraser.

This is highly ambiguous to me. Saying they have not seen any failures is not the same as saying "this is how you should do it." I take more as a "it seems to work" statement. They also say that it's heat activated and that if you're applying by hand or using it in cold weather you should use Eraser. They don't define "cold." On the Cquartz UK page the recommend using Reflect. So taking all this into account... I use Eraser before coating.

CarPro US is fairly ambiguous on this. Saying they have not seen any failures is not the same as saying "this is how you should do it." I read it more as a "this seems to work" statement than a recommended process. They also say that it's heat activated and that if you're applying by hand or using it in cold weather you should use Eraser. They don't define what "cold" means. And, on the Cquartz UK page the directions are to use Reflect and they don't mention Eraser. There is also no statement that Cquartz performs better with Essence under it.

When I run all this through my marketing and jargon degarbilizer I come up with: it's probably ok to not use Eraser after Essence and before coating, but there's no advantage to it. There's no disadvantage to using Eraser before coating. So one option is certainly ok, the other is probably ok.

So taking all this into account... I use Eraser after before coating over Essence.

PS: Sorry for long, pedantic post. Among other things I do some risk analysis for a living. Happy to bore you with how the risk analysis on this pencils out. Bottom line: Eraser.

Just to clarify my comment... I agree that it is unnecessary to do an Eraser wipe down when going from Essence to one of the CarPro coatings (after an hour of cure time according to CarPro), however the OP did not indicate which brand of coating he had intended to use. I was actually thinking more in terms of the time between polishing with Essence and applying the coating. Even if the car is sitting in an enclosed garage you are likely to get some dust accumulation and/or debris on the paint over a 24 hour, 48 hour or longer period of time. Best practice would be to have the cleanest surface possible before applying the coating, hence my recommendation to wipe the paint down with Eraser, Gyeon Prep, etc.

Essence without any IPA/Eraser etc. has been fine on the many coatings I have used. There has been no adverse effects in durability, gloss etc. Just as Essence Plus has rejuvenated and repaired all types of coatings. I even top Reload with all brands of coatings.

Why not do the horizontals completely one day and do the vertical another? If you should get tied up or weather prohibits you from finishing, it won't matter if its days or weeks before you can finish the second half.

The longer you let Essence cure prior to coating the better IMO. I always let Essence cure overnight, Eraser wipe in the AM, and then start coating.

Thank you for your response! The vehicle will be driven so yes definitely another decon is needed prior to coating. Definitely a reset wash and a iPa/eraser wipe down prior to coating. I just wasn't sure because essence does have some sio2 so wasn't sure how bonding/merging would be affected. Have a great weekend

Yup sorry I do have a non carpro coating that will go over essence, thanks again

Great point! Thank you sir

Thanks for the reply, that's great news since essence is going to sit for a few days.

Thanks for the reply, I do the same as well with both my coatings is topping it with reload, I'm pretty addicted to it since it goes on everything, have a great weekend
