Can I use a QD to remove pollen?

I have 3 days worth of pollen on my black dd(that time of year). Is it safe to use a QD or do I need to go with a rinseless or waterless wash? I have Pinnacle Crystal Mist but am out of ww and the wife says "no more purchases from AG for a while" - darn women!

Any help would be appreciated.

3 days worth of pollen and on a black car, I would say "no" to using a QD. Do a rinseless to be safe.

My vote would be, "neither", unless you are in a water rationing area like California.

When my black car gets covered in pollen (it's turning yellow today after only a week), I go with a bucket wash to prevent any marring.

My experience with WW washes and a black car has taught me to use it only in cases of VERY light dusting. Even then, I'm very cautious. A rinseless wash might be a little safer.

QD? no, esp. because waterless products are available.

waterless? sure, esp if the car is protected. do a test area, check for marring. and use product liberally with good materials.

rinseless? definitely.

I have to make it unanimous up to this point...i would not use a QD to remove 3 days of pollen. I wouldn't even do it on a white or silver car nevermind black. I would do a full wash or maybe, maybe a WW.

Thanks all. I'll drag out the hose/2 bm with gg and get to work - just tough to do during the week. Narrow window after work and before kids baseball games/etc.

Now if I could only figure out what to do with my other issue - the wife!

overkill man, i'm telling you.

rinseless at the most. if you follow the directions, you'll be a-ok. don't let the paranoia of the forums deter you from keeping it simple! haha

EDIT: oh, i missed the wife part. it's so foreign to me, the idea of someone telling me that i can't do something, that i skipped right over it! sorry.

I have a couple of suggestions to skirt around the old ladies AG ban to get you by until it's lifted.

There is Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax Anywhere that is available OTC. To bad the the TW rinse less is gone now.

Also some auto parts stores carry a couple of the Duragloss product line, but I don't think they carry their rinse-less, but maybe they will order some in for you. CarQuest is one place that I know of.

I talked to NAPA about this. They could order, but it had to be a case of whatever you wanted and it would be all yours. No splitting it up and letting you take just one bottle and they throw the rest on the shelf and try to sell. That maybe a big double edged sword swinging back at you though if your wife finds 6 gallons of product stashed in the house.

Another option is to find a local detailer and see if they will sell a little of their supply or allow you to add a product or two to their next order.

No.

Unless you want your car scratched up.

The best way I have found to deal with this on my black car is pressure washing with DI water. It removes the pollen easily and leave no water marks. Simply let the car air dry. It will get 98% of the pollen off without touching the car. QDs, rinseless washes, and waterless washes are impractical ways to deal with pollen (you'd have to do them every day) and will and up leaving noticeable scratches on your car if you even had the initiative to do them that frequently.

if you don't have DI you can just rinse and hit it with a good blower. that will obv take more time but not as much as a wipe down or any sort of wash, and will be safer. the rinse and blower situation is one where being coated can definitely help, at least is has immensely for me.

i was taking it as the OP has a particular need to wash his car right now after a given length of time and accumulation of pollen, not that he's trying to keep it clean all the time due to pollen. but yeah, if you are trying to stay on top of it on an every few day basis, even rinseless can become arduous. agreed.

At the very least a rinseless IMO. A 2 bucket wash is ideal.

I love this time of year for everything except pollen.

Remember pollen is made to stick to surfaces. While it may look innocent to the naked eye take a look at pollen on a microscopic level and you will see a lot more.

Just imagine millions of these being pulled acrossed the surface of the paint and what could be the outcome if not lubricated enough. More than likely you can scratch the paint.
