As a person who only uses a polisher for personal reasons. Maybe 3 times a year. Would the Flex be to much for me? Also, the warranty is only a year. Or would I be golded using the Griots? I want something that would work great on my girls black 2012 Jetta and has more power that my dieing 7424. :buffing:

Griots polisher and microfiber pads for the win with that Jetta paint.

I use mine 2X/yr. and the GG6 suits me just fine. Don't forget to order a 5" BP.

Griot's works for me. I have a '13 VW and a 3rd gen Griot's with various brands of microfiber pads and that combo works great on it.

My PC7424 didn't die but I upgraded to a Flex 3401. Love it. I may end up using it only 3 times per year but it's so nice to use with awesome results. Not sorry one bit that I upgraded, however; will hold onto 7424.

I did the same thing. If you can afford the Flex, buy it and hang onto the 7424.

By the way, Firebird, Welcome to Autogeek.

For a weekend warrior... IMO, there is no need for the upgrade. You just simply want it just like a new car. There is no need to trade in that 2005 if there is nothing wrong with it. But sure is nice to have a 2014 with all the bells and whistles.

I have the GG6 with a 5" BP and 5.5" pads and I am very happy with it. Your PC may still work good enough for 4" pads and as a wax spreader. Great time to buy today with the no exclusions sale.

I ordered the griots for as little as I actually use it lol

Rupes or Griots. Flex doesn't play well with MF pads and MF pads are with no doubt the future of detailing.

Gotta agree, at least you did it right by asking questions. I went all hoggy and bought the GG but then got 6.5" pads. Wish I did it right and ordered 5.5 pads with a 5" backing plate. Just picked up a HF unit, ordered a 5" and 3" backing plate. Going to setup the HF for the 5.5 pads, get another HF unit for 3" pads. Make sure you get all the crap the first time, I am on my 4th order of odds and ends now. I first got my polisher and Fuzion along with the twins. Then ordered some of the right pads and such. Last order was sonax and wheel brushes, just ordered again to get small pads and backing plates!

Well If I remember correctly (thought I read it somewhere). That my backing plates and pads that I use from my PC will work on this?

I'm not convienced mf is the way of the future but I agree mf and the 3401 are not a good combination. OTH with the power of the 3401 you dont need mf. Most use foam on a DA to finish out vs mf anyway so foam isn't going anywhere.

Ever put a black Tuff Buff wool pad on a 3401 and you'll wonder if you'll ever need a rotary again for heavy defect removal. Thats how good a combo those two are and the 3401 likes most thick foam pads just fine.

In the end all the polishers work, you just have to know what combos too use and by looking at how awesome your work is, I know I'm preaching to the choir.

if you're only going to use it a few times a year then get the GG6 (another option is the HF DA). IMO, everyone should own at least one traditional style DA...
