Can not understand young drivers and texting!!!

We just lost a 16 year old that was texting while driving. He drove off the road and hit a wall.

His mother and girlfriend were both texting him.

They both feel responsible for his death.

After that, I don't text others when I know they are driving.

Man that is just awful. Prayers are sent out to him and his family.

Personally, I would rather toss my phone out the window than use it while driving. I put it in the console and that is where it stays. I have it on bluetooth but do not take every call.
Nothing pisses me off more than rolling up on anyone and they are behind the wheel texting.

I'm one of the youngest drivers in my family and I don't allow myself many distractions. Of course I have driven distracted before. I know a lot can happen during a lapse in focus at any speed. Some drivers are more disciplined than others.

Both of my parents are bad about getting distracted, it has always been that way.
My dad likes to preach about young texting drivers, too. Yet he scrolls through contacts and checks emails on his phone while driving regularly.

I look like a teenager (im 23) and drive a Jetta. I'm sure there are people that automatically assume I'm texting/tweeting/web surfing/watching videos and rolling a cigarette while steering with my knee every time I drive somewhere. Believe it or not, I concentrate on whats going on around me.

There is one thing I have in common with bad/distracted drivers and that is the fact I'm as comfortable with my driving as they are with their driving. Nothing will change until all cars are driving themselves and I doubt that will happen in my lifetime.

I would have just wrote down the plate and went to the local pd. Too many people text and drive, I think the fine for txting and drvin should be 1k and more pts on license

GEN9ROLLA and VWGLI I mean no offence to your generation.People from my generation had to find a pay phone with the invention of the pager.I`m not singling out the younger people as I`ve seen all people distracted with their phones. If my phone rings(which it hardly does LOL) I wait to call back.

OMG that is so sad,I could not imagine how they feel.

Sad to hear that.May God bless his soul and family and friends. It`s tough to loose a child.

I see that allot out on the hwy I just want to blare my horn but I don't think it make a difference cause my horn isn't loud enough. What about train whistles now there is an attention getter the down side to that they may crash after hearing that. I watched a vid on youtube car scaring people who have a hidden whistle. I see them driving looking down what the hell is interesting down there so you can keep your eyes on the road. I just enough to drive me crazy.

I myself was rear ended from someone texting so iinstalled a front and rear video on my HD truck so when I know see texting I have it on video then go to that village police department to have them view it. Driver and license plate in view during braking the law they issue them the ticket.....I know people that people texting and driving so they get in front of them and slam on the hooks when they are doing it. The deaths are just beginning of a travesty which I hoped never have happened !!

There are apps you can install on cell phones so they can't be used once speed is over 10mph. 911 is always functional of course. You can also program a couple numbers they can reach anytime like parents, spouse, etc. When enabled, those apps will usually send a message back to the sender that tells them the person they are attempting to contact is driving and that person will contact them once they are done driving. I believe they are password locked so if parents install them on kids' cell phones, the kids can't disable them or uninstall the app. Most of these apps are free.

Let me chime in on this;

1. I am glad for bluetooth technology in cars, my job requires me to be on the phone a lot and drive to a few buildings around downtown. I am not going to be "pulling over" everytime i get a call, i'd get nothing done.

2. Young drivers aren't the only ones who text, but i'd say play a large part in this.

3. Being in bumper to bumper traffic every single day i notice a lot of texting drivers mainly because their reaction time is very slow or they keep a super long distance between cars.

4. Fee's should increase for texting while driving, that will at least slow people down, but never stop.

I agree with pretty much all. One thing I don't though, is the cell phone jammers in cars. I have a two cases where I have had to out drive a drunk idiot that wanted to (for some reason) take my car out. Another one was someone was pissed for no reason. Seriously. No reason. I can explain if people doubt.

Both cases, if I had a jammer in my car, I would not have been in a good situation. I had to call 911 while driving. I couldn't pull over, drunk guy would have slammed into me. Other idiot would have probably hit me or started smashing my car.

There are too many scenarios that require people to call 911 WHILE driving and not stop for safety reasons for jammers to be logical. I've also had to call 911 on several drunk drivers that I was following and giving locations for the cops.

Side note, jammers would also suck for the passengers in cars that are taking long trips lol.

Where I live I see more moms with kids in the car texting and talking on their phone which pisses me off. What is wrong people knows days are so self involved and nothing else matters!

Yeah I see that a lot in Memphis too. Things won't change until people learn the hard way. That's just how the world spins now.
