Can washing cause holograms? [pics]

Hey everyone. I'm detailing a newer, black Maxima. It was really dirty, but appeared to be in great shape. Then I removed the dirt and was confronted with a Monster!

There were scratches everywhere. The dog liked to welcome the owners home and left a zillion marks everywhere. Now that the dog's gone, they want a scratch-free finish.

After washing with generic soap using a MF Mit, and drying with a MF towell, I looked over the car in the sun and there were holograms everywhere.

Surely, with such hard clear coat, that can't be from washing and drying.

I decided to do a compound to remove the scratches and holograms and after four hours going panel to panel, I brought it out in direct sunlight, and while she has a scratch-free shine, she also has holograms everywhere.

Am I doing something wrong or did I just not work the holograms out enough? What actually causes holograms?

Here's what I used:

PC7424XP (orbital! why am I getting holograms?)
M105
LC Orange

Please help me. I'm headed back over to do a polish and wax today. I need to know how to fix this asap.

p.s. In the second pic, there is a deformity in the clear. I was able to buff it out, but could somebody identify it for me? Thanks!

You probably were not working in small enough sections and slow enough hand speed. 2x2's when polishing slow had speed and speed six on you pc.
 
Should I drop to 205 and white pad or will that not be aggressive enough to remove them?
 
Holograms are caused by improper use of a rotary buffer coupled with a wool pad. It's not from your washing.

You're probably not using an aggressive enough polish and pad combo. But M105/LC orange should work.

How much pressure are you applying? What speed is the polisher at? How slow is your arm speed?
 
The holograms were there before you touched the car. You simply uncovered them when you removed all the dirt and grime during the wash. Somebody hacked this paint before you...

You will be able to remove them with your PC & M105. You can possibly even remove them with an orange pad & M205 (if you are looking for a 1-step option). Test spot will of course reveal what the paint will accept.

Four hours going panel to panel? You work faster with the pc7424xp than mike phillips paired with the rupes. :poke:
